Pilsner, the worldís most popular style of beer, was invented in Czech Bohemia, perfected in Germany, and turned into flavorless mass-market fizz in America. Genuine Pilsner is a thing of beauty; it is delicate, sharp, flavorful, aromatic, and appetizing. While most people think pilsner came from Germany, its origins actually come from Bohemia. In 1842, a Bavarian monk smuggled lager yeast from Munich to the Bohemian town of Pilsen. Brewer, Jesef Grolle, used the lager yeast with British malting techniques to make pale malt, but was able to craft an even lighter malt, creating a beer golden in color. Only one year prior, Spaten brewery had stunned and delighted the people of Munich with itís light bronze Marzen beer, before this time all beers had been dark and murky. Grolleís Pilsner beer grabbed peopleís attention and changed the world of beer. It had the color of burnished gold, and light sparkled straight through the glass, as no one had ever seen before. Cold fermentation left the beer clear and bright after itís long aging process. The sharp clean bitterness with flowery aromatics was created from local Saaz hops. High levels of natural carbonation in Pilsner result from the long aging process, creating a pillowy white head on top of the golden liquid. People were captivated, and word of the new golden pilsner beer raced past the borders of Bohemia and swept throughout Europe. Genuine pilsner is truly mouthwatering, deeply satisfying, and incomparably refreshing! Original Gravity 12.5 Plato ABV 5% IBUís 38

Pour on tap at GABF, clear yellow pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of nice soft cracker, biscuit, bread, nice grassy, lemony notes, slight honey. Taste is a hint of grass, nice cracker, biscuit, slight honey, hints of spice and yeast, finishing fairly bitter, dry, clean. Pretty well done.

5% on tap at Craft Beer Base it Osaka. It poured a crystal clear straw gold and had a mild grassy bitter hop aroma. Itís a really nice pils with a crisp bitter hop bite & a dry finish. Very solid. A good example of the style.

Pint on tap. Big olí head, good lacing, clear, golden yella. Nice aroma, on trend. Nice carbonation, classic taste, i guess itís a crafty version of a classic, but itís no big deal. Drinkable though, pretty pleasant. Long long aftertaste. The thing is, crafties canít do too much better than the macros in this style for some reason!

Tap @ brewpub. Light yellow pour with a frothy white head. Aroma is lightly toasted grain and hop bitterness. Not particularly floral. Taste is clean and quenching with light grain and toasted notes and an assertive hop bitterness. Nice beer.

On tap at the AFK Tavern. Pours a golden color with a medium white head that leaves good lacing. Smell of sweet malt, light hops and honey. Tastes of all same things in the smell with a good hop presence for a pilsener. Mouthfeel its light and well carbonated one of the best Mouthfeels Iíve experienced with a pilsener. This is a top notch pilsener. One of the best Iíve had.

Draft. Poured a clear pale color with an average frothy white head that lasted and had good lacing. Moderate balanced sweet aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet dry finish of moderate duration. This beer met my expectations.
