COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pilsner, the world’s most popular style of beer, was invented in Czech Bohemia, perfected in Germany, and turned into flavorless mass-market fizz in America. Genuine Pilsner is a thing of beauty; it is delicate, sharp, flavorful, aromatic, and appetizing. While most people think pilsner came from Germany, its origins actually come from Bohemia. In 1842, a Bavarian monk smuggled lager yeast from Munich to the Bohemian town of Pilsen. Brewer, Jesef Grolle, used the lager yeast with British malting techniques to make pale malt, but was able to craft an even lighter malt, creating a beer golden in color. Only one year prior, Spaten brewery had stunned and delighted the people of Munich with it’s light bronze Marzen beer, before this time all beers had been dark and murky. Grolle’s Pilsner beer grabbed people’s attention and changed the world of beer. It had the color of burnished gold, and light sparkled straight through the glass, as no one had ever seen before. Cold fermentation left the beer clear and bright after it’s long aging process. The sharp clean bitterness with flowery aromatics was created from local Saaz hops. High levels of natural carbonation in Pilsner result from the long aging process, creating a pillowy white head on top of the golden liquid. People were captivated, and word of the new golden pilsner beer raced past the borders of Bohemia and swept throughout Europe. Genuine pilsner is truly mouthwatering, deeply satisfying, and incomparably refreshing! Original Gravity 12.5 Plato ABV 5% IBU’s 38

As part of a sampler tray during my visit to Bellingham Not a favorite style of mine, but clear light straw colored with a modest bright white head. Tell-tale saaz hops aroma and the crisp bite of the pilsner style is nailed. Good representative of the beer genesis.

On tap at Collins Pub in Seattle, WA. Pours a clear yellow colored body with a finger-width, dense, creamy and frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is floral citruses and a light grass with a very lightly sweetened, grainy pils malt backing. Flavor is similar. Clean, grassy and floral citruses with a lightly sweetened, grainy pils malt backing. Finishes dry, clean, and lightly bitter with a touch of pils malt sweetness. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a light body and a crisp, moderate carbonation. Overall, a tasty pils. Well balanced with a nice grassy and floral citrus alongside a lightly sweetened pils malt backing. Enjoyable beer.
