big thanks to Connie and Michelle for introducing me to this place - - it’s a real speakeasy in Greenwich Village from the prohibition era - there’s not even a sign in fron of the bar!! color is darkish amber, thin foamy tan head. aroma of caramel malt, cinnamon and nutmeg. flavor is caramel malt, then some faint sour grassiness and a bit of nutmeg. fairly thin on the palate.

A moderately spiced effort from Chumley's, that's a lot like their very tasty pumpkin ale, just without the pumpkin. If you're like me, you like your spiced beers with some spice in 'em, dammit, and this delivers. The bartender said to me "You might not like this one, it's not for everyone." That sort of surprised me, cuz it's not like he was pouring me a rauchbier, or eisbock. Anyway, I guess they serve a lot of pilsener there. So, as I said, this winter warmer is decent, and it's pretty malty, but you'll not confuse it for a scottish ale anytime soon. It's not hopped much, so think of it as a spiced Newcastle Brown. One of Chumley's best.
