Bitterness: 40 IBU, ABV: 4.6% Mash schedule is single concoction.

4/13/2010: Church Brew Czech Pils... Aroma: Subtle fresh-pressed apple cider that has lightly fermented; slightly grassy hop presence. Appearance: Bright golden yellow, trasparent; quick, active carbonation; nothing on the top surface. Flavor: Soft, lightly dough maltiness; small punch of grassy Noble hop bitternes in the finish. Palate: Medium-light; gentle. Overall: Not too much above a nondescript American Macro Pale Lager...

Draught (12.5°P, 1.050 OG, 40 IBU, 4.6% ABV) at Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh, PA. Rating #7 for this beer.

Draft at the brewpub on 04/10/10. Came to the table pale gold in color with a thick off-white head. Some citrus, cut grass, a little honey, and a hint of smokiness (maybe Pittsburgh water isn’t the best to be brewing with?) in the aroma. Thin-bodied as expected. A light sweetness upfront taste-wise. A drying crackeriness follows. Grapefruits and lemons are present at the end. Not exactly crisp and refreshing. Quite dry and bitter for a pils. Otherwise, this is pretty standard run-of-the-mill stuff.

On tap at Church. Transparent gold with thin wisps for a head. Muted nose is sweet honey dominating the lightly grassy hops and almost nonexistent pale malt. Flavor is a large improvement, definitely dry bite from the hops but still only a little pale malt, strongest in the lengthy finish. A little less sweetness would be preferred here.

Had this beer at the Church. It was Ok but a little this and less hoppy than Budvar. Clear golden, not much head which always bothers me about beers that claim to be a Pilsner. No lacing but clean finish

On tap at Club 3000, PNC Park. Tangy hops aroma, floral with some grassy sweetness but also some sour pilsner malt. Cloudy golden with thin lacing white head. Medium body and carbonation. Nice pilsner aroma with carbonic gaseousness and acidity. Light sour funky quality to it, too. Perhaps because it’s unfiltered or maybe an unclean line. Not unpalatable. An interesting pils, for sure.

On tap at the CBW. Golden yellow, white head. Aroma is malty, hoppy and subtle. Flavor is is crisp and slightly bitter, with hints of citrus and vanilla. I rather like the more bitter nature of this beer and I think this is a good example of the genre.

Pale yellow like any other ubiquitous pale yellow american lager. Mild aroma, it just smells like good ol beer. Taste comes across with an initial mild bitterness but it is not over the top. Has a much lower impression of IBU than is what’s listed in the description. Light carbonation. Has that typical background flavor of many CBW brews. Certainly a pilsner, has a gnawing building bitterness with each sip. Bitter bite builds ensues with each slug and culminates on the finish. On style but perhaps a little more bitterness than this lager lover can appriciate.
