Drake (7940) - Free Union, Virginia, USA - MAY 3, 2013
Draft at the brewpub courtesy of lithy. Thanks! Pours a clear copper color with a large frothy off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of big toffee malts with citrus and resin hops. The taste is herbal, citrus, melon and resin hops with toffee malts. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness, just a bit off balance. Solid DIPA.

Resiny hops. Actually labeled as Thunderhop Extreme DIPS. Heat from hops and alcohol. True big boy.

Growler to taster at the RBWG (thanks lithy). Looks solid; a transparent dark orange with thin white lacing. Smells and tastes hoppy with an average mouthfeel. Not bad.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2013 On tap at the bocktown monaca. Too nice of a place for the hillbillioes that live in that general locale. May not make it because of the prices but yet a really nice plce. This beer was simply labeled church brew double IPA. First impression is it is a pale lager in appearance. Head fades rapidly. THe intriguing aroma is that of your mate’s b/o after sex, eh quite interesting. No co2 greets my palate. I think this beer is too well behaved to be a cloying double IPA. Yes, well behaved and fresh, crispy I think. Not destructive, almost likeable and I hate IPA. YEs, on style for a well amde IPA but falls short of the terribly insulting attributes of imperial.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2013 Good aroma. Smells of grapefruit. Best IPA aroma I’ve experienced. Not super bitter aftertaste. Good stuff church.
