COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The next rotating Blast Furnace Stout is a Fresh Hop American Dry Stout. This stout was brewed to celebrate the fall harvest of both barley and hops. The style of stout represented is a creation of your humble brewers. Similar to an Irish Stout, the Dry Stout is a lighter in color and typically not nitrogenated, also the chocolate malt was eliminated from the grain bill. The reason for this was not to overpower the fresh hop aroma and flavor. Fresh hops have a much “greener” flavor that some might call “leafy” or “grassy”. The color of this stout is a pronounced black with some ruby highlights. The aroma is that of hops. When first tasting the stout, you will notice some fruitiness as well as toffee and coffee. The finish will be dry and “grassy”. We hope that everyone enjoys our tribute to the hardworking farmers, maltsters, and hop growers who provide us with the best possible raw materials! This was on cask at the brewery. Very bitter beer with fresh hop notes and a very thick mouthfeel. Lingered in the palate for a while but was generally enjoyable.

10/12/2009: Church Brew Works Fresh Hop Stout... Aroma: Espresso roast coffee; Leafy citrus hops. Appearance: Very deep brown color; thick, dense, lasting dark beige to tan-colored head; very solid lacing. Flavor: Fresh citrus hops; bittersweet chocolate; roasted malt; bitter coffee finish; moderate bitterness overall; fresh hoppiness (red grapefruit, tangerine) through the finish. Palate: Full-bodied; extremely smooth. Overall: Very nice hop/stout pairing.

This one poured a very dark brown almost black color with a beige head. Aroma was of fresh cut citrus hops with some roastedness in there as well. Flavor was of fresh hops, a bit sweet, and a slightly roasted finish. An interesting attempt, the only thing bringing this one down is its lack of body.

Draught at BrewPub: Faint aroma of light hops, light pine, light chocolate, and light roasted malts. Poured brown/very deep orange in color with a small tan head that lasted throughout. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, hops, and pine. Light to medium body. Thin, very chalky texture. Soft carbonation. Chalky, roasted malt and chocolate finish.
