COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
a special style of beer made with malted wheat and malted barley. Hefe weizens are from Germany. This beer is top fermented (an ale) with a very special yeast. The Hop levels are kept deliberately low in order to bring out the character of the yeast. If you notice the nose of the beer, it has a clove-like or fruity aroma. The grain bill includes 50% wheat malt and 50% barley malt. It is served very carbonated and a touch cloudy. It is cloudy because it is served unfiltered. The remaining yeast contributes flavor, adds B vitamins, and improves the beer as it ages.

Chalkboard read "5.0%"

Pours rather a pale golden, casting amber shadows with faint hazing under a full but fast white head. Plenty of ripe banana esters in the nose with a faint tint of sulfur above background pastries and cinnamon. Mid-bodied yet seemingly delicate with a spritz of carbonation and a light cheek-pinch of tartness. Flavor finds a citric twist to the base of banana yeastiness... more like oranges than the traditional lemon notes I’m used to finding. There is a mild note of diacetyl, but the lingering perception is that I just ate a big slice of banana bread with a glass of warm milk. Very comforting.

Pours golden from tap. This is one of the clearest Hefeweizens I’ve yet had. A bit of banana on the nose. The notes are a bit more muted on the tongue. Clean finisher.

Slightly hazy pour. Nose is fairly fruity. Light clove with a distinct pale malt sweetness. Light astringency on the finish. Soft wheaty palate. By-the-number, but okay.

tap @ Church - musty, cloves and estery banana. Yogurt and nuts. Hazy orange pour, no head. Smooth caramel, wet sweet malts, finishes with a nice hoppy bite.

On tap at Church on our way to RBSG. Pours a gently hazy browned yellow amber with a medium sized white head. Light sulfur, bananas and yeast, wheat. Smooth. Lots of banana flavors. Quite smooth. Banana and oxidization on the finish.

This poured a cloudy darker yellow color with a larger white head. Aroma was lots of yeast and wheat, with hints of clove and banana. Flavor was very spice, with a lot of yeast notes and light banana and some coriander too. Decent German Hefe.

Strangely clear yellow color with an aroma of banana and spice. Flavor has banana and clove as well as wheat, but overall lacks depth and character.

On tap. Hazy golden-orange in the glass with minimal head, odd for a hefeweizen. Clove and banana on the nose, with a stale smell to go along with it. Clove and wheat in the mouth, but again an overall stale flavor, like the beer is too old. Low carbonation, again odd for a hefeweizen. Poor representation of the style, and I generally enjoy this type.

Tap @ brewpub: Clear, yellow gold with typical yeasty banana aroma as well as a little bit of rubber. It has a crisp flavor with a light finish. Not too bad.

On tap at the Church. Golden to pale orange but almost non-existent cloudiness, which was odd for a hefe. Aroma was wheat, banana, citrus, and clove. Flavor was similar, definitely tasted like a hefe, with very noteable fruitiness and spice. Crisp effervescence. Not bad overall.
