Linus_Stick (1458), Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA May 23, 2008 Terrible terrible hefe. The worst that I’ve ever had. Aroma was weak, but could pick up some clove and banana. Pour was a flat light gold with no head. Taste was very flat and bad. Could only pick up stale bubblegum and a hint of spice. Aftertaste was vomit and bubblegum. If I had not paid for it I would have dumped it. frankenkitty (1788), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Jul 15, 2007 Chalkboard read "5.0%"
Pours rather a pale golden, casting amber shadows with faint hazing under a full but fast white head. Plenty of ripe banana esters in the nose with a faint tint of sulfur above background pastries and cinnamon. Mid-bodied yet seemingly delicate with a spritz of carbonation and a light cheek-pinch of tartness. Flavor finds a citric twist to the base of banana yeastiness... more like oranges than the traditional lemon notes I’m used to finding. There is a mild note of diacetyl, but the lingering perception is that I just ate a big slice of banana bread with a glass of warm milk. Very comforting.

cheapdark (1501), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 3, 2007 Updated: Dec 31, 2007On tap at the Works. Slightly hazy pale yellow with a small white head. Very little aroma but what you do get is slightly wheaty and perhaps a bit sour. Taste is like a typical wheat beer but not as disciplined as a wit. Has a background hint of bitterness that I don’t think should be present in a hefe. Medium carbonation and this brew is not overpowered with spice. When it comes to wheat, the simpler, the better. Pretty clean brew. Finish is friendly and well behaved. Not bad and would not hesitate to try it again.
Not as good as Michelob Bavarian Style Wheat but on par with Erie Brewing German Wheat and Summit Hefe Weizen. IMHO much better than Penn Weizen.
