crizay (1070), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Dec 31, 2007 750. Hazy golden pour, medium white head that stays big and leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is spicy belgian yeast but not overpowering, grassy, honey but the yeast dominates. Flavor is very balanced, belgian yeast upfront but again just enough not too much, banana, honey, clove. A touch of tartness to it with the spicy yeast staying in the aftertaste. Some grassy notes and more honey as it warms and even a touch of bubblegum. Full chewy mouthfeel and lots of lively carbonation perfect for the style. I like how the yeast doesn’t completely take over this beer and is just enough on everything, I think this is the best tripel I’ve had it’s just smooth and balanced.
Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA May 27, 2008 Bottle. Pours a yellow amber body with a 4 finger high head which quickly disipates to a lacing. Aroma and flavor of sweet malts, spices, belgian yeast, fruit and citrus. Finishes dry. santoslhalper (166), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2008 Cloudy straw body with a rich white head. Smells yeasty and bready with hints of wheat, banana and spices. Spicy bready taste with clove and pepper notes. Tasty! kmweaver (1948), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA May 15, 2008 750mL bottle, 2006 vintage, courtesy of pjweaver (my bro!). Thanks, Phil! Despite Phil’s encouraging words, I wasn’t expecting a ton out of this beer... I’m a fool. Pours a bold, clear tarnished-orange / copper color; fizzy off-white head with medium-bubbled lacing. Honey, pan-fried bananas, brown sugar and a very pleasant yeast character in the aroma; definitely odd, and definitely good; minimal oxidation, with just a touch of caramel. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: loads of chewy bananas, honey graham crackers and sweet honey, a touch of cloves to balance things out (hardly cloying); just from the high carbonation and touch of alcohol showing (though minimal), this seems like it would have been a bit off-putting in its early years; after 7+ years of age behind it, there’s nothing off-putting about it: drinkable, chewy maltiness without residual sugar or cloying sweetness; pleasantly drinkable and very generous beer; a bit of citrus and lime-infused hops showing through still. Medium finish: bread, doughiness, honey, and some fried bananas; just a touch of sweetness left at the end. Linus_Stick (1510), Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 9, 2008 An awesome tripel. I was skeptical about this beer as CBW is hit or miss but man was this delicious. Aroma of bubblegum and a hint of yeast. Pour was a beautiful light gold with a nice 2 finger white head. Taste was incredibly drinkable for 9%. Light fruit (banana mostly), clove, honey and spices. Could barely taste alcohol. Perfect carbonation. I will get this again. Nejhleader (779), Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 7, 2008 nice brew, 9% on tap 13% from the bottle, and you can get minikegs of it. nice sweet aroma, body is a bit thick, well balanced with a presence of spice and some fruit sweetness.
