joshwilfong (559), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2008 hazy reddish brown with mild white head. never had the style before, bit flavor is fruity, a little too syrupy, with mild hop bitterness. not a big fan
LinusStick (1596), Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA May 23, 2008 A decent barley wine. This was described to me as a mix between their heavenly hefe and a barley wine. The hefe was awful so I wasn’t expecting much from this. Aroma was a hint of banana and some caramel malt. Pour was a nice medium brown with a 2 finger off white head. Taste was very wheaty and yeasty with banana, clove and sweet caramel malt all fighting to be dominant. This beer isn’t terrible but the flavors are a train wreck. zebracakes (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 18, 2008 Growler. Hazy orange amber, thin white head. Aroma is yeasty and fruity. Flavor is yeasty, fruity, malty. Although the alcohol is well hidden, this beer is too yeasty for me. cheapdark (1652), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA May 18, 2008 Brownish very light iced tea color and no head. Ever so slightly hazy. Sweet alarming plastic alky aroma, olfactory like its gonna have some kick. Typical sweet sticky barleywine palate impact. Reminds me of many othe rbarley wines. At times this stuff is perfumy on the taste buds, if thats possible. Finsih is alky and coating. Hangs for a while and is a bit too much for this lager loving ratebeerian. On style for a BW. kassner (217), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA May 3, 2008 I classified this beer as a Wheat Ale, but the correct choise is Wheat Wine, comparable to a Barley Wine, but that catagory is not available in the drop down menu. This is the second wheat wine I have had, and I really like the style. Very sweet, with a modest bitter finish, modest carbonation, but vey drinkable, with the high alcohol content dangerously not obvious. Golden color on draft at the Church Brew Works. I bought the Glass to go with it.
