About 150 years ago, this dark style lager was first brewed in Munich, Germany. Our version is fairly dark in color, but don’t be afraid. It is a perfect example that dark beers are not always strong beers. The body is surprisingly mellow, and the alcohol content is a bit lower than most people might think. It has a wonderfully clean and roasty aroma. Hop bitterness levels are kept in line, but is has a noticeable hop flavor. Our Pious Monk Dunkel finishes crisp and clean as a lager should.

quite a nice brew and compares favorably with many recent craft creations. Although the pour is poor, the taste makes up for that with quite a favorable taste and unique. Would recommend strongly.

Pours mildly cloudy golden copper color with a light tan head. The head fades to a thin cap on top of the liquid. Notes of banana bread right after the poor. Once it settles, more prune is noted. It is like the dark fruit notes that come through in a lot of British brown ales. A somewhat creamy mouthfeel with a little carbonation being expressed late. Muffled flavors of ripe banana and some sweet and tangy. A bit of stale bitterness emerges at the finish.

On tap at World Beer Festival in Cleveland. Not my favorite, light easy to drink lager.

UPDATED: JUL 30, 2013 Draft. Good color for style. Decent malt taste, but seemed a little more watery than other dunkels I?ve had, which is probably because of the lower ABV they?re trying to hit. For a session beer has a very good taste though. Give it a try if you?re looking for an easy drinking beer without getting wasted and aren?t a fan of hops, but want something more substantial than a light lager.

Draft. Dark copper with little head. Nose is lightly floral. Taste is nutty, bready with a salty kind of finish. Strangely like tostitos but in a good way. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Split a 12 oz bottle with friends. Poured a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma was some notes of roasted malts, some sweetness, touch of light chocolate. Flavor was a nice earthy hop character with some roasted malts, sweetness. Pretty easy to drink. Enjoyable.

Solid dunkle, nice creamy dark flavor and good body for a lager. Good for style. Not overly sweet like some dunkel a can be. Pretty spot on and great in quantities.

Draft. Poured a muddy amber brown with a medium-sized tan head that left some lacing. Aroma and flavor were roasty malt, a bit of nuttiness, some caramel, toffee, molasses. Body was a bit thin. Pretty solid dunkel, just not as complex as others I’ve tried.
