COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
About 150 years ago, this dark style lager was first brewed in Munich, Germany. Our version is fairly dark in color, but don’t be afraid. It is a perfect example that dark beers are not always strong beers. The body is surprisingly mellow, and the alcohol content is a bit lower than most people might think. It has a wonderfully clean and roasty aroma. Hop bitterness levels are kept in line, but is has a noticeable hop flavor. Our Pious Monk Dunkel finishes crisp and clean as a lager should.

[1281-20080410] 12floz bottle. Toasted mouldy grains aroma has a hint of garbage, hay straw and crayon wrapper. Clear, rich amber body with quick white creamy bubbles. Mildly sour brown ale flavour characteristics with basic grains and toasted malt. Medium body is mostly mid-notes. Weird floral background.

Bottle thanks to Daniel. Pours out a ruby/brown color with a small white head. The aroma is mostly toasted malts, some light fruits and perhaps s touch of banana. The flavor is similar; lots of toasted malts, some bananas, clove and something odd I can’t put my finger on. Fizzy and full of flavor. Decent overall.

Draft at the brewpub. Deep amber with an off white head. Malty sweet aroma with toast and a touch of chocolate. The flavor has toasty malts and a hint of sweetness. Decent.

Bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev, jerc & mabel -- courtesy of GregClow. Pours a slightly hazy copper with an average size diminishing off-white head. Dull stale aroma of toasted malt. Flavour of grain, lightly toasted malt, some mild sourness and a light bitter finish. Thin bodied. Not good. Dunkel!? I don’t think so...

Clear dark copper amber color with a thin ring of white head. Aroma of mostly toasty bready caramel malt. Body starts lightly sweet with a lot of grainy character with an authentic German lager yeasty presence toward a blander, mild finish..

Split a 12 oz bottle with friends. Poured a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma was some notes of roasted malts, some sweetness, touch of light chocolate. Flavor was a nice earthy hop character with some roasted malts, sweetness. Pretty easy to drink. Enjoyable.

12oz bottle courtesy of Rogueone. Pours a semi-opaque amberish light brown with a medium off-white head. Yeast and malt notes in the aroma with a tidbit of hop. Good hop and malt balance in the flavor with some yeast for kick, but unspectacular and finishes pretty thin.

Sampled at the brewery. Clear amberish. Grainy and bready with a nice fruity blast. Complex. A hint of cherry from somewhere. Earth is big. Quite nice.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2014 Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a medium brown color with a small white head. Very faint malt aroma. The flavor was bitter, nutty and dry with some roasted malt present as well. Actually this tasted a lot more like a brown ale to me than a dunkel. Nothing inspiring here.
