Commercial Description:
About 150 years ago, this dark style lager was first brewed in Munich, Germany. Our version is fairly dark in color, but don’t be afraid. It is a perfect example that dark beers are not always strong beers. The body is surprisingly mellow, and the alcohol content is a bit lower than most people might think. It has a wonderfully clean and roasty aroma. Hop bitterness levels are kept in line, but is has a noticeable hop flavor. Our Pious Monk Dunkel finishes crisp and clean as a lager should.

On tap in the Church. I thought the color was medium brown and not as dark as some other dunkels I have tried. Flavor was smooth and balanced. Palate was fairly light. The finish was clean.

Tap @ brewpub: Amber color with a sweet leather aroma and taste. Also some notes of splinters in the flavor followed by a soapy finish. Ok.

This poured a brown color with a small white head. Aroma was slightly roasted, and a bit nutty, some sweetness too. Flavor was very watery and bland, but nothing offensive, some sweetness and slightly roasted.

Pours medium brown with one finger head, leaving a crown with decent lacing. Smells nutty at first, swirling releases a floral and hoppy scent. Tastes semi-light with a taste tilted more toward malt, not much in the way of bitter. Great intro to craft. Mouth is light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Drinkability is good, this is a semi light lager, easy to drink, slam, and session.

On tap in Church - Poured a clear dark caramel with some decent head and lacing. Smooth with malt and light roast on the palate, a hop grain body. Well balanced, light-sweet grain aroma. Liked this one!

A pleasant dark beer for summer - not too heavy or sweet, but nice hints of malt aroma. Relatively light in the mouth. The Church sells it in party kegs, which is how I brought it home; generally enjoyed by a crowd.

Brewed in the USA..... On tap at the Works !!! Pours a dark amber color with a thin white head. Aroma of caramel, malts and yeast. Taste is also of caramel, malts, bread and bananas. The mouthfeel is clean, refreshing, and pretty enjoyable.

Guess I couldn’t keep my hands out of the cookie Jar this evening. It’s been a little while since I just sat down and drank/rated beers! This one comes to me from Cheapdark, thanks Dennis. This one has one damn classy label, I usually don’t mention it but I really like the looks of this one. Pours with a medium size somewhat loose head after a vigorous pour but the retention is good.... interesting. Aroma is mildly roasty, malty, with a particular copper character. The flavor is nice, bready, somewhat toasty, a little bit of caramel malt sweetness, but this is well balanced by a dry character and some nice spattering of noble hops. There is a little bit of chocolate, but not really in a sweet way. Enjoyable.
