COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Small batch/High Gravity Specialty beer, the Raspberry Imperial Stout has a dark colored head with a slight red tint to it. The red tint is from the fruit. The aroma is a competition of rich roastiness and intense raspberry from real fruit. You may notice a slight sherry or raisin-like aroma as well. This is from the higher alcohols involved. The body of the beer is extremely big with a full mouthfeel. There is also a flavor of raspberry blended with the roasted maltiness of the dark grains used. It will finish with a long lasting flavor including some lingering bitterness.

The raspberry aroma made me think at first that it was going to dominate the flavor, but that wasn’t the case. The raspberry was very mild, which allowed the underlying malts to stand out, something I haven’t encountered much with fruity beers.

Well, considering Pennsylvania seems to have half the Raspberry Imperial Stouts in the world, it would make sense that I’ve chosen this as my favorite. Comparaive to Weyerbacher’s version, this beer is more complete as far as the presence of the rasberry in the flavor/appearance/aroma. Not only do I prefer this to other raspberry imperials in those three departments, it also packs a stronger punch at 8.8% ac. Since I was a wee lad I’ve had more than my fair share of stouts in volume & in variety and this one from my hometown sits near the very top on my board!

Thanks to Mark from GWCB for sharing a growler of this. Very full bodied, saly and buttery, with a very cloying raspberry sweetness. Lots of fruits and nuttiness, almost undrinkable.

Deep brown w/ a reddish glow to it. The aroma was a lovely blend of chicory and chocolate. From the first taste to the last this was a quality stout. Complex and thick w/ a hint of raisins. Nicely roasted and very enjoyable. The type of beer I love around the holidays.
