Nejhleader (771), Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 7, 2008 dark brown colour, average body, has a sweet matly aroma. taste is a sweet roast malt, maybe a hint of toffee, not bad.
Linus_Stick (1458), Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 9, 2008 A decent English strong. I can tell you this. EXTREMELY drinkable for an 8%. Aroma of mostly caramel malt. Pour was a nice deep dark brown (near black) with a 2 finger tan head. Taste was (as a lot of CBW brews are) a little watery but with a nice semi-sweet maltiness and a hint of plum in the aftertaste. Very malty and sweet but after the swallow, there is nothing. Nice but not great. bryandhargrave (148), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Jan 6, 2008 i didnt at all feel like an english strong to me. i passed it up after a couple of sips and moved on the the house dunkel. i like strong ales. cheapdark (1501), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 28, 2007 On the blackboard this Sleigh Wrecker was listed as 7%. A little sweet in the aroma, no indication of the 7% that lurks within. Very dark but you can see a reddish brown hue thru it, not hazy and seems filtered. Oh yes, quite an alky impact. About as much as the 7% would indicate. Alky is not hidden, each sip provides a little more bitter on the back of the throat. Eventually it almost developes a citrus hop bite that can be identified with many IPA. Very little carbonation. Overall not a bad beer but more bitter than my lager taste buds can appreciate. On the finish it has a bitter medicinal linger that hangs for a while. illinismitty (1313), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Dec 27, 2007 Draft at Brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a creamy off white head. Nice aroma of caramel, dark fruit, and ale esters. Medium bodied with a nice malty and earthy texture. Initial flavor of dark chocolate, raisen, and grains that transitions to a moderately sweet middle. The herbal bitterness is there to provide balance, and is a mere backdrop to the malt profile. Finish has a slight nuttiness, and the alcohol is well masked- but you can sense it’s there. This is a fairly solid example of the style, worth of drinking twice on my visit.
