reddish brown appearance with slight white head. flavor is low on the malt but has a nice flavorful hop component making this beer very drinkable . not a bad beer, but no real complexities, average

20oz cask pour at Piper Pub in Pittsburgh. Pours a totally clear, light prange with a thin, creamy white head. Nose was malty, wet bread, a little yeast, some light citrus. Flavor takes a turn for the worse, there’s a weird, peanut like flavor, some stale bread, no bitterness at all. Weak, watery finish. Not good.

A delicious ESB that I am shocked it didn’t get better ratings. Much more carbonated than the traditional ESB (I’m American, can’t help I like that). Aroma was weak but could pick up some caramel malt. Pour was a decent dark amber with a nice 1 finger off wihte head. Taste was very caramell-y with a nice hop bite in the aftertaste but nothing that overpowers. The problem is it’s a little too watery. Nice beer, though.

Not a good ESB.. Sour, cheaptasting and not all that bitter. Finish is especially weak.

Typical good beery aroma, nothing special, absent of adjuncts in the smell. Slightly darker than a pale yellow beer, more copper or light brown in color. Filtered and clear. Taste is fairly mild without much bitterness. Some fruity tartness can be detected if you really search for it. Decent carbonation with some fizz but not creamy. Overall a pretty good and enjoyable beer. A small amount of mild hop or malt bitterness is ever present an it hangs for a while on the finish. Amazing how a style can be called a bitter and it is not really that bitter.

Draft at Brewpub. Pours a dark amber orange with a light beige head. Aroma of sweet british malts and ale esters. Medium to light bodied with that thin British (but not watered down) texture. Flavor of caramel, nuts, and perhaps a hint of tobacco, with a subtle balancing herbal bitterness and fruitiness mid palate. Smooth and clean finish. Not bad, but lacks some characteristics of the true English bitters.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Derek881 (728) - Frederick, Maryland, USA - DEC 16, 2007
Sampled at the brewery in a pint glass. The beer was a dark amber-brown color, with a moderate, creamy tan head. It had a sweet, but subtle, caramel malt scent and some hops. The taste was not as bitter as expected, somewhat sweet with most of the bitterness at the finish. It was somewhat creamy, but also a bit thin, and on the wetter side. A decent beer, but not too inspired.
