Dogbrick (2166), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 28, 2008 Bottle from Cappelli’s in Washington, PA. This brew pours a mostly clear dark amber color with a thin white head that dissipates slowly. Hoppy aroma with touches of pine and citrus. Medium-bodied with a moderately bitter hoppy character. Notes of pine and grapefruit with a small amount of malt in the background as well. The finish is hoppy with a lingering bitterness left behind. Overall there is just enough malt to keep this beer from becoming overly astringent but it is still pretty close to being too far in that direction. Still it is above average.
matt7215 (499), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Jul 25, 2008 12 oz bottle from a trade with Linus_Stick. pours brown with a mid sized tan head that lasts forever. nice lacing on the glass. very dark orange, much darker then most IIPA’s. aromas of sweet maltiness. mostly caramel with some hops but the aromas are pretty subdued. flavours are smooth malts with piney hops, a touch of plastic near the finish. not very complex a little to sweet and the plastic almost ruin it all. not terrible but needs some ironing out. agl108 (354), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 20, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Poured deep amber with poor head retention. No lacing. Piney nose. Sweet and malty with a piney, citrus flavor. No alcohol noticeable. Nothing stands out about this one. JB175 (1274), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bottle from Capones - Amber color with a medium head. Aroma is big and citrusy with some sweet, sugary essences. Flavor is a bit citrusy and piney with some sweet malts, but lacks a dominant "punch" that I would appreciate in the style (I would call it a regular IPA). Not bad at all - good stuff, just not in the "outstanding" category. smetrick (8), Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Jul 14, 2008 12 oz bottle. Poured a dirty water brown with little carbonation and hardly any head. Smelled like wet bark. The hops were strong but one dimensional- all bitter and hard on the palate without any floral or citrus on the nose. There are so many better IPAs out there. Thundercr@p. adrian910ss (966), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 8, 2008 Pours a cloudy light brownish copper with a medium sized white head. Beautiful aroma of faint grapefruit, grassy pine notes and sour hard candy. Taste of grapefruit with light piney resin and grass. Has a finish of lemon tea flavor. Surprisingly good.
