Lots of hops, but not enough malt body to balance it out. Piney hops are rather one dimensional.

Perfect example of an over the top hopped ale. Darker than most. Rank bitter and excessive hop preservative effects. If you like IPA, DIPA, or IIPA; gotta try this. Not quite as 8% as the listing would indicate. Has a numbing effect on the olfactory and palate. Bitter, chewed on grapefruit rind, excessively long finish. Common for this rude style.

Bottle. Sunset amber with a small white head. Strong - overwhelming, even - aroma of citric hops with a pineapple juice background. Medium bodied. Poorly balanced flavour of strong, acidic hops with little malt to back them up. OK, thereís a bit of sweetness there, but itís very faint - the sharp hops just take over, and not in a good way. Looks like the people who try it at the pub enjoy it more, so maybe I just got a bad bottle?

A subpar IIPA. Would have scored a lot higher as an IPA and actually that is what the waitress told me it was. Aroma was so so. All citrus hops. Pour was a dark orange with a thin white ring for a head. Taste was standard for an IPA but weak for an IIPA. Mostly citrus/grapefruit hops with a tad of malt to balance it out. Was the best beer they had that night, but all in all not a great one.

Name: Thunderhop IPA
hazy burnt orange, fine beige head, bits of drippy lace,
sweet dark caramel malt aroma with citrus hops,
lots of citrus flavor, caramel malts add a bit of sweetness and a base for the big hop flavor, light bitterness kicks in half way through and lasts for a long bitter finish, bitterness starts to take over after a while

Nice deep color and persistent lacing. Hoppy all the way through that almost completely masks the alcohol, but a little slips in. The flavor of the malt was fairly weak, giving it a limp body.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2013 Sampled on draft this beer poured a dark amber color with a medium sized soapy white head that left good lacing. The aroma was sweet pine, resin and grapefruit. The flavor was a nicely complex mix of piney, fruity and floral hops. There body was rather light and lacking malt backbone but the hoppy finish was long and pleasant.Well done.

Served honey/amber, mostly dead, under a creamy ecru head via hand-pull. Dishwater & grapefruit aroma with a sweet malt note suggestive of a heavy DIPA base. Flat yet mid-bodied with a sharp hop flavor. Consistent pine and grapefruit bitterness without the malt balance found in the nose... which you hopheads are sure to appreciate.

Very good IPA but didnít really think it met the profile of a double or imperial, amber in color, smallish off-white head, nose full of hops, pine & grass, very dry & very bitter, lots of hop flavor with notes of grapefruit, lemon & grass, dry & bitter finish

Growler from Church. Pretty decent IIPA... aroma and flavor mostly dominated by citrusy hops. Alcohol well hidden... very drinkable. One of my favorite Church brews so far.
