10/12/2009: Church Brew Works Rhineland Roggen... Aroma: Fruity and spicy; Belgian-like. Appearance: Hazy amber color; collapsing dense and frothy beige head; good leggy lacing. Flavor: Fruity and spicy; decent rye showing. quite a big of Belgian-like yeast; hints of nuts, bread crust, bubblegum, banana. Palate: Medium-full body; smooth; moderately thick. Overall: Too much like a Belgian Ale and not enough like a Roggenbier.

Draught ( 13.5°P, 1.054 OG, 10 IBU, 5.0% ABV) at The Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh, PA. Rating #1 for this beer.

Draught @ CBW: This one poured a clear, darker brown color. There was a small off-white head that left some lacing. It had a nice nose. Wheat, banana, rye, clove, some spices were the most obvious. The taste is also very good. It had a medium body, and a slightly silky texture. Flavors of wheat, rye, banana, clove. This was very good!

Sample at CBW. Pours clear red with a medium beige head. Nose of banana, bubblegum and clove. Flavor is the same. Dunno if it’s just my palate, but when these characteristics are in a beer they dominate my taste buds and nothing gets through. Never would have guessed there’s rye in here.

This poured a darker amber color with an off white head. Aroma was malty, a few hints of rye and bread. Flavor was very bready, slight spice, pretty balnd or the most part.
