COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
XMAS IN JULY Everyone loves a good holiday beer. Many beer drinkers live for the winter season when these high alcohol oft-spiced ales and lagers hit the taps and bottles. As your Assistant Brewer in Charge of Impatience, I feel it is my duty to serve a Sparkle Season swigger in the sunshine of summer. Holiday beers come in a variety of flavors and colors. Mine is a loose translation of an old homebrew recipe (created by yours truly and former employee John Mattie). It has been “summerized,” however, and exists now in a lighter, lower alcohol version. Tasting Notes: Brewed with ginger, cloves and bitter orange peel, this Belgian-style brown ale is a little sweet up front. You should notice some toffee, a touch of caramel, a hint of raisin and a slight little touch of chocolate wrapped throughout that initial sweetness. The infused ginger should be apparent, but not overwhelming, from the beginning as well, and that will fade into the slightly more pronounced flavor of cloves. The hops were kept low to allow the bitter orange peel and cloves handle the very light bitter finish. The same yeast used in our Trippel is featured in this ale to add its own light clovy essence to the party. The Vitals: Original Gravity: 15.5º Plato 1.062 Bitterness: 15 IBUs Grain Bill: Pilsner, Melanoidin, CaraFoam, Carafa II Adjuncts: Candi Sugar, Molasses, Ginger, Cloves, Bitter Orange Peel Hops Used: Ahtanum for bittering, Hallertauer Hersbruecker for flavor Alcohol: 6.3% ABV Cheers and high-fives, Brewer M Note: The notion of saving back holiday beers for the summertime is increasing in popularity among better beer bars in the city. The ability to brew a fresh holiday beer in the summer is quite a privilege. I hope everyone enjoys it. Happy Holidays!!!

I know its the 2nd half of August but CBW had this on-tap for my birthday last week and I liked it well enough to bring home a growler that I popped open last night and poured into my mad elf chalice. A- When poured a small fizzy tan head appeared then quickly vanished completely leaving no lacing..etc. Body is a dark murky translucent red/brown. When held up to the light the red can be seen more clearly. Fogginess is dense and uniform. S-Nose is sweet and spicy. Ginger, clove, and cinnamon hit the nose first followed by a sweet caramel and toffee scent. T- Ginger and clove upfront with a malt backbone consisting of mild chocolate, caramel, and toffee flavors. Spicy Belgian yeast can also be detected. The spices intensify and bitter orange peel and anise also come through for the finish. The spiciness of this brew lingers on and on. P-Medium carbonation and medium weight body rich with a smooth yeatiness. O- I was pretty excited they still had this and it was a nice birthday treat. This Belgian style Christmas ale is more of a spicy one (think Mad Elf and The Reverend) than a typical one (Corsendonk or Delerium Noel). This is a great specialty brew by CBW and shows that if you really want to see what this brewery can do you have to head to the brewpub. Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 08-18-2008 18:24:14

Draft at the Church. Hazy dark brown with off white head. Aroma is spicy: coriander, nutmeg. Flavor is spicy and very yeasty, which is rather a turn off for me. Perhaps this would be better if it was aged longer.
