Cask at The Green Man, Stamford, Lincolnshire. Dark gold. Grainy muesli aroma, gradually revealing an old fashioned sweet malt with suggestions of treacle tart. The taste is full of old barns, bulging sacks, and dust motes dancing in sunbeams. Some bitterness. This is the whole deep countryside thing, that seems to have entered my psyche during a family holiday in Cornwall, circa 1956. But I still didn’t particularly enjoy the beer
