Cask at GBBF, 2012. Reddish-brown pour with a white head. Coffee and caramel aroma. Caramel and light coffee flavour with a hint of smoke. Dry and smooth. Tasty stuff.

Cask at GBBF 2012. Very dark beer, thin white foam. Very nice creamy malt aroma with a hint of chocolate. Smooth palate, sweetish malt, hint of carbonation. Excellent. For beer lovers brought up on Michael Jackson’s pocket beer book (the one he did for Sainsburys) this is the epitome of what a mild should be.

I’ll be honest from the get go, I think that this is probably my favourite beer - an epiphany of sorts when I sipped it down. I tried it at the Cotswold Beer Festival in 2008 (I think) and it stole my heart, but I haven’t seen it since. Maybe I should move to Warwickshire... It was evertything that a mild can be, and boy was it good. It starts with really nice, dry roasted, smokey, coffee - giving it a nice dry, slightly bitter edge. All followed up with delicious, malty chocolate.

[3263-20100803] Cask sample. Mild poop and peat aroma with earthy sweet malt notes. Clear, dark brown red body with a quick foamy off-white head. Little roast malt flavour has a lingering toasted bread aftertaste. Medium body. Odd on first impression.

(Cask at GBBF, London Earl’s Court, 4 Aug 2010) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of chocolate, liquorice and coffee. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, dark bread and hints of smoke. Rather light body, mainly dry with a mild bitterness. Quite nice mild ale.

Cask at GBBF 2010, 3rd Aug 2010. Dark brown with a line of head. Nose has some nasty funk ("Sh*t" - Mabel) and the palate is thin. Slips down easily. Bit of dark chocolate but it is light on flavour in general.

Clear dark brown beer. Little tan head. Malty nose. Darl malt but with a light presence and dry. Some lactose sweetness. Minerally semi dry finish.

2010-08-03. Ruby accented brown body, small ehad fades. 3+ Modest aroma, malt base with light fruit and toasty malt accents, small caramel malt touches. 6+ Flavour is similar, mild malt character with toasty malt accents, mild roast in the finish. 6+ Average palate. Decent but plain. Cask at GBBF 2010
