Cask handpull at the excellent Seven Stars, Bristol. Almost black, with an off white head. Very rich flavour - it has a mild liquorice and smokey treacle chocolate aroma. Very enjoyable!

Cask at the Solihull Camra beer festival 2012. Dark almost black pour with a thin bubbly tan head. Big peaty smoky aroma with a nice malty medium sweet flavour, but little bitterness and no chocolate or liquorice. This beer has a big aroma and I was expecting more behind it, but it wasn’t there. However, it’s different enough to make me want another, so that must be a complement!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ladnewton (1147) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 7, 2012
Cask at the Cambridge Blue, Cambridge on 6th September 2012. Black with pale brown foam ring and scant lacing. Coffee aroma with roastie malts. Rich roastiness in-mouth along with coffee and freshly-baked biscuits. Malty end with biscuit notes and coffee. Velvety and mildly textured mouthfeel. Superb.

Aroma of bitter, burnt malts and a little smoke. Flavour is dry and woody at first with bittersweet malt, cocoa and coffee coming through too.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol May 2012. Jet black with a slight tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate and black coffee. Mouth feel was a bit thin, with more chocolate, a touch of berry sweetness and dryish finish. Ok.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (1210) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - NOV 23, 2011
First tasted this in The Three Judges, Glasgow in October 2006. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a thin buff head. Slight mocha coffee note in the long aroma. Smooth creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts give a strong roasted grain note which then fades to give strong black coffee, bitter chocolate and burnt toast. No sign of fruit or caramel notes in this. Not too dry in the short bitter aftertaste but a liquorice note creeps in at the finish. Not as complex in range of flavours as some of the other 4.6% stouts that are out there.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Merchants Inn, Rugby. A black beer with off-white wisps of head and lace. The aroma is heavy on the coffee with roasty malts and a bit of smoke. Same in the taste. Quite sweet/smoky. Decent.
