Cask@Battersea BF/ Typical English bitter, which is the sum of its parts and nothing else. Good balance between hops and malt. Very drinkable bitter, but around average i think.

First tasted this at the Mossend Beer Festival in June 1999. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thin white head. Slight note of marmalade in the short aroma. Resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a weak digestive biscuit base with redcurrant fruit, soft burnt caramel and orange peel. Strong hop presence with a dry bitter aftertaste. Finish is slightly malty with toffee notes coming through. An ok session bitter.

Cask at The Green Man, Stamford, Lincolnshire. Copper with a small white head. Malt aroma tends to the eggy. But I enjoyed the taste: sweet malt with a crisp, sharp, fruity edge. Some bitterness. A bit chilly.

Cask@Lord Nelson, Copenhagen. Amber colour, small white bubbly head. Aroma is wood, nectar, some caramel and mild grassyness. Flavour is wooden, herbal, caramel malty and has a quite grassy dry bitterness in the finish. Pleasant and very wellbalanced.

Barrel. Hazy yellowish colour. Aroma is sweet with apples and hops. Good mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet with apples, bitter hops, some caramel and bit citrus. This brew has an infection but actually a nice infection (apples).

Cask conditioned gravity dispense White Swan Harringworth. A dark gold coloured beer with a superb balance of flavours. Nothing stands out and hence the out of ten scores are not that high, but relatively it’s worth a 15 out of 20. Super fruit and hop flavours. Bittersweet and sessionable to perfection. I’ve always thought this beer is a bit special and finally getting round to rating it the scores are testimony.
