Moderately strong aroma for a beer but not overpowering compared to some barleywines. Boozy scent with some syrupy fruit. Dry, medium bodied, alcoholic, warming... quite a good offering! At volo on tap.

Bottle, pours a dark reddish, aroma is cherry and just a strong smell. The flavour is quite smooth, full of dark fruits and a nice dry finish. Overall tasty stuff

Had from the bottle, pours a amber hue, with a small amount of head. On the nose, a mild caramel with a bit of citrus. A very smooth refreshing taste on the palate, the high alcohol is surprisingly restrained on the finish. Very pleasant.

On tap at Volo. Pours a hazy amber colour with a moderate-sized lacy white head. Aroma of candied fruit, caramel and even a little citric hoppiness. Flavour is also quite sweet with lots of fruit and caramel as well as a light hoppiness. Fine carbonation; alcohol is fairly subtle. Nice.

Has a sweet and sour taste. Not a lot of depth, it’s just decent. I preferred the only other barley wine I’ve had at Granite.

Tap at Volo. The beer has a tight white head. The beer is hazy with a deep ruby tint and a tight white head. The aroma is a little bit sweet and sticky. Caramel and spicy/fruity hops. There is a lot of estery yeast components. There is a bit of earthy hoppiness in addition to some heavy spicy fruit. There’s a bit of lingering bitterness. Soft and quite lovely. It’s not a crazy barley wine but it’s pretty solid.

Bottle at Wvrst. Appearance: dark yellow, barely any carbonation and a tiny white head. Aroma: Fruity at first, yeast, lots of malt and a hint of alcohol, quite sweet. Flavour: Nice not too sweet flavour at first, strawberry, malt, quite pleasing, a lovely ’barrel’ flavour to it with a nice long malty and moderately boozy finish. Very nice.

Growler from the brewery, shared with Colin on the eve of Swans’ promotion. Pours a dark orange, little head. Aroma of strong alcohol and lots of malty bready sweetness. Taste is good - more strong ale than barleywine really - alcohol, bread, malt sweetness. None of the complexity I would normally associate with a barleywine but at the same time being quite a nice drinkable strong sweet ale with a church key house/yeast character. Not bad at all.

On tap at the Wooly. Pours orangey copper in colour with moderate course white head. Aroma and taste are dominated by sweet, bready malt, candied fruit sweetness, lots of alcohol, but mostly hidden.
