Deep clear brick red, average beige creamy head. Subtle nutty/campfire aroma, vaguely sweet. Taste follows, even more drinkable. Somewhat thin, lightly astringent and carbonated, light gritty hardwood finish. Nice! - better than recent Holy Smoke.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 ontbeermaker (1859) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 2, 2013
Tap, had this one back in the summer at wvrst, pours a dark black, aroma is very smoky and flavour is quite smoky, it was a bit overpowerly smoky for me, but it was still enjoyable
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Gorbalev (2827) - Ontario, CANADA - DEC 25, 2012
Christmas 2012 catching up of this years Church Key ratings. On tap in Toronto - I think it was Volo (notes sketchy). Dark brown, creamy white head. Nice woody smoke aroma (vs. the peat smoked holy smoke). Taste is good - mild woody smoke, creamy mouthfeel over a medoium body. Accessible yet quite tasty smoke.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Lubiere (8335) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 1, 2012
A deep dark brown ale with a thin creamy and lacing brown head. In aroma, a strange cinnamon and peaty malt, with light black olives, and somewhat off and spoiled meat notes. In mouth, a lightly acidic peaty malt with molasses, acidic, unpleasant. On tap at Wellington Gastropub, July 26, 2012.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 rob6239 (480) - Ontario, CANADA - JUL 30, 2012
On draft at WVRST. Pours clear and dark with white head. Peat and smoke come through strong in the aroma and the taste combines the scotch well. I wish I could try this side by side with Church Key’s Holy Smoke Ale to see how they compare.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Spab (1688) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 20, 2012
On tap at Barhop. Pours a dark, near black brown with average-sized light tan head. Aroma is nicely roasty with toffee and nuts. Taste has a gentle smokiness that doesn’t overpower and balances nicely with some toffee-ish sweetness and a little nuttiness. Body is average. Very accessible smoked beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 blankboy (5199) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 15, 2012
Draught at Bar Hop. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with an average size lasting creamy off-white head. Decent lacing. Mild but pleasant aroma of smoke/peat, caramel malt, hints of chocolate & coffee and some spices. Flavour of caramel malt, light smoke, notes of chocolate and light hops. Slightly creamy mouthfeel, average bodied. A sessionable Smoked beer, pretty good stuff.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Sammy (7120) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 15, 2012
On tap at both Wurst and BarHopBar. Pours an opaque black colour with a handsome though small white head. Mild and pleasant fireplace smoke aroma. Above average mouthfeel, this is a very smooth drinker and has very good drinkability. Moderate smoked flavour, and so well balanced it is something I enjoyed two pints of, and is something that should be popular even with those who normally do not like the more extreme smoked beers.
