Bottle (650ml) shared with tupalev, GregClow, jerc & mabel -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours a clear copper-orange with a small diminishing white head. Aroma of lots of caramel malt along with some yeast and grain. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, bread, grain and a hint of rye. Alcohol’s well hidden. Medium bodied. Pretty good, kudos to Church-Key for making more then mainstream Lagers and Ales.

Draught @ Volo: Billed as "Catch Her Rye" at Volo by our cranky bartender.. asked him what it was, he said "rye beer". Cleared that right up, slapnuts. Came dark copper colour, just a small ring of white head. Aroma is mild, breads and grains, just a hint of rye. The flavour is terrific, great whiskey-style malting with nicely done caramely sweetness for balance. I love John at Church-Key simply for his non-stop efforts at offering something untraditional. I should also note that until I read it now I had no idea it was 7.5%, the alcohol is very, very well hidden.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2007 On tap at the Cloak and Dagger, rating 1700. Dark copper, big white head. Sweet aroma, hint of grain. Taste is very sweet, some alcohol, some bread notes, and lots of caramel in the finish. Thick foamy mouthfeel. In tastes the 7.5% that is listed. Flavourful, without coming close to the superior rye beers from folks like Bear Republic or Founders. Good beer. Cheers to Church Key for trying something new yet again. Update: tried it out of one of the neat bombers that they had for sale at the brewery and it was good - probably better than on tap. The nose was improved, and the taste was really nice - lots of caramel and fresh grains. This is one solid beer.

Im jumping the gun a little bit since this one was fresh from the tank unfiltered, at the brewery with John, But im sure it will be out for spring reviaval. great interesting beer, very cloudy nice mouthfeel, interesting nose not overpowering. Another big alcohol at 7.7 or it was at the time of tasting, so well hidden. lovely aftertaste slightly buttery finish. great beer
