Ungstrup (29334) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - DEC 25, 2006
A deep red beer with a slight haze under a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with primery notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as lighter notes of burnt malt and smoke, leading to a dry end.

(Bottle 34,1 cl) Clear mahogany with a reddish hue and a beige head. Lightly burned, ashy nose. Medium body with both burned and smoked accents. Dry and lightly hoppy finish. The smokiness is only discreet and pleasant. 161206

Draught at Barhop, Toronto
Dark mahogany color, not penetrated by light, with red hue; small sized creamy head. Nice aroma of peat and some oxidisation. The flavor seems to be affected more by the oxidisation; dark caramel too; correct bitterness. Pleasant but a bit messy.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2004 Light brown; with 10% peated malt, this is a little unbalanced, in a Laphroaig kind of way, with big burning embers and underlying malts that fight to sustain the beer. If you've already numbed your palate a little bit, this is nice stuff, but could be a little overpowering otherwise.

Nice smokey nose, good mouthfeel, almost like Bamberg malt (Schenkerla) with spome acidic points, nice bitterness in the end, nice balance...much more interesting than Northumberland

On tap - BeerBistro Toronto. Wonderful black beer with good smokiness and roastiness. Seems to be a smoked porter which is fast becoming one of my favourite styles. Very good drinkable beer.

More roast than smoke, like a stout, Thats good. Much carbonation, however. New formulation? Some fruitiness and malt made it balanced.. Surprisingly enjoyable directly form them at the 2004 St. Lawrence fest.

Dark brown beer with a thin dark brown head. Massive smoky aroma which tastes like hickory and mesquite, not the usual beechwood. Flavour is much more subdued than the aroma, showing loads of sweet fruit, blackberry, cherry, plum, and brown sugar. Sweet and full bodied. Creamy texture. Great stuff.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2008 2008-05-03. Very dark brown not quite black body with decent creamy beige head. (3+) Aroma of mild peat smoke accented malt, sweet underlying character with light coffee-mocha hints. Flavour has less of the smokey peat than I recall, bringing into levels that are not nearly as dominant as in many other smoked beers - to its benefit in my opion. The peat plays nicely with a malty base that has hints of coffee roast underlying it. Average to medium bodied palate.(3+) Less assertive but more quaffable than I recall. Considering I typically hate smoke with a passion, I suppose thats pretty complimentary! 7/4/7/3/13 - 3.4 On tap at the brewery, Spring Revival <P>August 2003. Bottle. Blackout Beer #2! Roastiness and smoke in the aroma. Slight chocolaty notes at times. Dark ruby colour with a thin tan head. Bottle might have been a bit off. Will have to re-rate at some point. 5/3/5/3/11 - 2.7
