(Rating #3320)

On tap at Pub Italia. By FAR the least inspired thing I had all day, and I even took a serious look at some Schoune stuff in Gatineau before this. Dark deep red with a tiny beige surface film. Lousy creamy malty aroma that is painfully faint and unimpressive. Flavour is equally faint, some garbage toffee malt and that’s about it. Pathetically simple, and I’m a guy who likes subtlties. ’Crisp’ I guess, though it would compare well with soda water and red food colouring, that was still somehow over-priced and overly filling-feeling. This wouldn’t even impress moronic frat-boys my age who you may be trying to get into craft beer with ’approachable’ stuff. Awful, wasn’t even alllowed to send it back, so thanks a lot Church Key for 1) making your stuff f***ing impossible to find (even at the brewery), and 2) making swill that never promises to impress when actually found. Seriously. Could you dial this one in a little more lazily? Sorry to be a dick but, come on! I’ve barely enjoyed ONE of your beers that I had to track down and beat up several old ladies to obtain. What the hell are you trying to accomplish as a brewery/business? *rant off*

On tap at the stinking rose. A good base of bready malts, with some light caramel. Light floral hops, semi dry bitter finish. Nothing incredible, but well made and super drinkable.

Draught, at Volo. This rating has eluded me for years - happy to get the tick. Clear bright burnt-copper pour with an average off-white head. Dry, mild aroma - a bit syrupy-sweet with hints only of leafy bitterness and dry cocoa. The taste follows - mild, dry, sweet but that odd chocolate bitterness to it. Watery body, with lively carbonation, it finishes lightning-quick - and leave no lasting impression. Not bad - probably solid with food.
