HogTownHarry (3267), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Dec 30, 2007 Draught. At Volo. Slick-looking opaque brown-black pour, decent tan head. I really dug the aroma - sweet chocolate malt, not sugary, but rich - perhaps a hint of bitterness and tartness. The taste - initially I loved it, full-on chocolate, nice light funk and acidity behind it, and a light, tart-fruit (plum?) wine-like character .... but as it warmed, I wasn’t as impressed - it started to seem a little thin, and the alcohol began to dominate a little too much. Fairly thick, silky mouthfeel, more acidity than I expected, and of course somewhat boozy in the finish. Liked it, didn’t love it. jerc (3212), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 1, 2008 On tap at Volo. Black body with a thin film of a head. Aroma of fruity cocoa, light caramel and malt. (7+) Sweet flavour with a very light acidic touch to the cocoa bitterness, fairly well rounded overall. Rich malt improves as the glass goes on and it warms. More light acidity to the finish leaves the mouth dry. (8+) Smooth medium to full bodied palate is finely carbonated. Not as complex as some, but this is very good, and quite easy to drink considering the abv! Sammy (3135), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 18, 2008 On-line at C’est What. Kudos to them for babying this, it must be asked for by name. Last known keg. Black with great chocolate porter aroma. No known head, thought it a cask but there is carbonation there. Fine on the mouthfeel, but great porter taste. Very nicely done.
