| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 18, 2006 Almost black w/ a lasting covering of light brown foam. Malty, roasty aroma of chocolate & dark fruit w/ mild notes of smoke & that yeasty Church Key house character. Medium, chewy feel. Flavour is chocolaty & fruity w/ a nice earthy hop bitterness. However, there is a strange quality to it--almost as if it were diluted with mineral water. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada

Full roast coffee aroma, dark chocolate and burnt toast, jet black, wearing a mocha head, lace is really pretty. Flavour has espresso, dark chocolate and raisins. Full bodied, well balanced, alcohol is well hidden. Terrific! GregClow (2516), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 3, 2006 Draught at Volo. Deep brown-black with a wispy tan head. Aroma has a lot going on - roasty and smoky, hint of burnt coffee beans, and even a bit of funkiness. Mouthfeel is soft and silky, lovely! Flavour is big, but well balanced, with notes of coffee, chocolate, malt, smoke and wood melding perfectly, leading to a long, dry finish. Fantastic stuff - please make more, Church Key! blankboy (3263), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 29, 2006 Draught at Volo. Pours a deep black with an average size semi-lasting creamy light-brown head. Nice roasty malt aroma with some coffee, chocolate and hops. Great tasting roasted malt flavour with lots of coffee, some chocolate and hops and ends with a long bitter finish -- this goes down incredibly easy and hides the alcohol very well. Medium bodied. This is a great example of the style, many kudos to Church-Key for a very fine beer, I hope it sticks around and becomes a year-long beer. rudolf (1789), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 28, 2006 tap @ volo. Pitch black, dark brown creamy head. Nose is deep chocolate malt, some iodine, some coffee. Flavor is dark roasted malt, some cherry, chocolate. Bittersweet astringent finish. Reminds me a bit of founders IS. jerc (3966), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 28, 2006 Draft @ Volo. Black body, with a small chocolate head that fades. Acidic tang is prominent in the aroma and flavour with muted roast, and malt middle not quite balancing the acidity enough. Chocolate sweetness comes out much more in aroma and flavour as the glass warms. Acidity I griped about up front becomes much more palatable in a warmer glass. Light roast lingers in the finish. This is definitely not done justice consumed with a chill. I am glad my dinner gave me reason to let it sit for a bit. Keep up the new experiments Church Key! Acidity feels more like a porter, but thats a moot point. Sammy (4070), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 28, 2006 Opaque black with small head. Half pint at Volo. Malt and coffee and bittersweet chocolate aroma, but also boozy. Lace in glass. Roasty with generous coffee. So much so that acidic coffee, being the biggest stomach irritant in the world, had its effect. Medium bodied, rolling carbonation. satisfying but more like a coffee porter than a thick RIS
