Oakes (7030), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Sep 24, 2008 Golden-beige colour. Earthy, herbal, slightly spicy hop nose with a caramel base. Some woody hop, but quite a bit of diacetyl as well. Not nearly aromatic enough for the "west coast" moniker, and rather malt-accented for the style in general. Worse, though, is that the malts aren’t that good, there’s too much diacetyl and nothing comes together. muzzlehatch (4429), Burlington, USA Jul 4, 2007 Draught half-pint at The Manx in Ottawa, July 18 2007. Beautifully full, lasting creamy head tops the cloudy amber-gold body, lacing well....fresh leafy-hoppy aroma, tarragon and mint, wild grasses, softened by sugared oranged and peaches, given some pungency by fresh grapefruit....quite bitter and dry throughout the body, a very light maple-peach sugariness helps keep it balanced....light, crsip, strongly carbonated, really very very nice if just a bit too harsh on the finish. JoeMcPhee (3899), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 11, 2007 Tap at Volo. Deep amber beer, thin white head. Aroma is quite dark and dank. Musty, earthy hops. Damp leaves, light sulphurous yeasiness. Earthy with crisp UK malts an a minerally bitterness. Definitely not West Coast... unless you’re talking about Liverpool. Lubiere (3408), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jan 26, 2007 A golden orange amber ale with a thin creamy white lacing head. Nice resinous hops in aroma, herbal, grassy and fresh. In mouth, a dry malt with light honey, clovers and floral hops, light grapefruit residual in final. Medium bodied. On tap at the Black Tomato, Ottawa, Jan. 23 2007. Rating 2600! Radek Kliber (3402), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 21, 2006 On tap. Dark gold almost amber like . Small white top. Woody hops and juicy medium dark malts. Rich front , decent balance created . More like British Bitter I would say than West Coast style . Perhaps a bit more high alpha ? Either way quiet good enjoyable ale.
