4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 27, 2013 on tap at the brewery tasting room. pours gold with a nice 2 finger bubbly white head. aroma is light corn, light malt, and light german hops and some grass. flavor is the same as aroma but stronger and the hops sticks to your tongue for a bit. lacing is on par and very nice. this is more of a hoppy german helles than a pale lager. body is light to medium. very nice!

Draft at Bottlefork. Noble hops and lemon dish soap on the nose. Grassy, hay, slightly grainy. Crisp clean finish.

12/28/14. 12oz bottle from the Milan Hy Vee. Lightly hazed orange pour with a fluffy off-white head that cuts but laces fairly well. Bready aroma, faintly floral, mild lemon peel... shockingly mild and inoffensive compared to the other brews I’ve had from them. Muted bready flavor, muddy, doughy, a touch of apple, cream corn, lingers almost tart in a way, green apple or lemon juice in a way. This brewery has issues.

Tap at the taproom. Pale gold pour with a small white head. Grain, touch of grassy hops. Not as sweet as the Helles.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a light orangish color with a nice white head. Aroma of bready and pils malts, herbal and grassy german hops. Flavor is nice, bready, fairly dry with a medium amount of bitterness. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Finishes with more apparent hop bitterness. This is a pretty nice lager.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a clear golden in color with a medium, though quickly fading, white head. Clean aroma consists of corn, grassy hops, lemon, and yeast. The taste is grainy, a healthy influence of lemon. Still a good amount of a grassy flavor as well. This is slightly tart, especially at the end. This goes along with a short lemony aftertaste. Light in body, with more of a thinner texture, while having about average carbonation. It is very drinkable, being light enough and not very complex that it is more thirst quenching than anything. But overall, I wouldn’t go out of my way to find this one.

This is really yeasty for a lager. It pours nice and clear and seems to be in quite good shape but definitely, if I was blindfolded, I would be as likely to pin this as a hefeweizen as I would be a pilsener or whatever kind of lager they brewers at Church St. might have been shooting for. The heck of it is though this is actually pretty tasty. It has strong bready yeast character in the nose and then some slight sweetness brings out juicy banana notes once tasted. It finishes dry w/ just a touch of bitterness. I like they way it tastes but this would finish last if you entered it into a sanctioned homebrew competition. I am going to rate it just as a beer--so pretty good marks from me--but this simply does not taste like what it says on the label.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
So swamped by old notes it’s not funny. Here’s the beer I tasted in April at Cellar Door. Nice golden pils color, looks a little hazy with some thick but dwindling foam. Slightly grainy, sourish smell, perhaps. But taste is just on target for a light beer style. Slightly baked biscuit malt with a note of honey. German hops are quite sharp and peppery. Despite the light abv, a full shaker is pretty substantial. No watered-down megabrew this. I keep comparing it to a pils, but it only lacks the Czech hard water profile to make an examplar.

Hoppy American meets GErman lager, want to try the Helles bad. No diacetyl whatsoever.
