Taster at the Blarney Stone’s Solstice Fest, Oak Forest. Clear golden lager color, a thin ring of foam in a much used plastic taster cup. Light malt smell with a note of yeast. Malt becomes pretty prominent in the taste. Definitely in the Dortmunder category. Then a little sweetness kicks in to remind us that it is a lager without the water profile of a pilsener. But yes, enjoyably malty.

From B and C. Quite a decent helles. A little crisper than some of the softer helles of Germany, but otherwise is pretty true to style. Serving: Bottle

Much anticipated bottle, after being hearing about the brew process from Chet. This is my style so ill scrutinize it. Nice light golden pour, white head, somewhat creamy. Smell is definitely really herbal for the style, notes of anise and bubblegum. The flavor has some good bready and malty characteristics but an overriding characteristic that i can’t pinpoint. It certainly is not bad for american brewed helles lagers but there is a bit o work to do to get it on the level of new glarus or olde mecklenburger. This definitely deserves to fly off the shelves in il though as there is little else in competition with it save metro beers and the standard not as fresh as they should be imports.

Very good beer. Little lighter than Stella. I would get it again. I have nothing more to say about this.

I don’t know what’s up w/ these Church Street lagers. I’ve had two and both seem to have at least a slight banana yeast character to them. If these were homebrews, I’d tell whoever made it to watch their fermentation temps. This said, like the other one, this isn’t really bad tasting but it is certainly not a helles in terms of its flavor profile. It is mildly hoppy, w/ a light creamy texture and a juicy banana note. It’s a pretty darn good krystalweizen, actually, and that is how I will rate it.

Cool little new brewery. If I had my druthers, it’d be closer to me. But, so it goes. Pours a straw golden color with a white head. Aroma of grainy malts, crisp lager yeast, some fresh baked bread. Flavor is dry, crisp, with mild bready sweetness. Medium bodied, nice effervescent mouthfeel. Nice beer.

Draft at Jerry’s. Yellow-gold with modest, creamy, white head, light lacing / Nose of grain, honey, grass / Medium body, somewhat fat, sweet but good hop balance, lightly bitter finish / Flavors of candy corn, resin, lemon, honey, biscuit, grass / A quite nice, bigger, fatter lager. Ale-like.

Bottle. Pours a pale yellow, medium head, not much retention. Nose is malt and noble hops. Mouth is about what you’d expect of a lager that apes German beers -- malt, hops and yeast. Boring and unisnpired, but your grandfather will think it’s the best beer he’s ever had. Gorch Fock is a much better representative of the style. Just saying.

Clear yellow pour at the national in Chicago. Tastes like a typical German style beer which I don't typically like so can't say my opinion of it not being good is accurate. And it was served luke warm

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2013 Enjoyed on tap at the brewery, served to a logoed pint glass, displaying a bright and clear golden color, with creamy, white head foam, and clingy waves & spots of lacing. The nose was light grain, pils malt scent, just a touch of sweetness, and a hint of noble spiciness. The flavor was similar notes, adding a low but noticeable hop bitterness, and lively carbonation. More on the lighter side in body, but crisp, clean, and very quaffable.
