One of Germany’s quintessential beverages, now in Chicagoland. Utilizing old world decoction mashing techniques for a truly sweet malt character. This gentle drink also features a straw-colored clarity that’s clearly heavenly!

Taster at the Blarney Stone’s Solstice Fest, Oak Forest. Clear golden lager color, a thin ring of foam in a much used plastic taster cup. Light malt smell with a note of yeast. Malt becomes pretty prominent in the taste. Definitely in the Dortmunder category. Then a little sweetness kicks in to remind us that it is a lager without the water profile of a pilsener. But yes, enjoyably malty.

Bottle: Hazy, honey gold, short white head. Lemon malt, grain aroma. Slightly tart, acidic citrus.....honey flavours. Light, malty. Very good.

On tap, poured into a shaker. The aroma is grainy with a biscuit and light citrus quality that fades to mostly caramel. The beer is crystal clear and straw colored with a very dense, micro-bubble head that’s a fluffy, kinda whipped-looking, white. A medium ring is retained with a wispy surface, and a dense, runny, sheet lace tries to form on the glass, but only a bit sticks. It’s a medium sweet and medium light bitter. There’s a spritzy quality, thanks to the foamy and zippy carbonation. The texture is thin and smooth with a light body. The easy drinking beer contains notes of cornmeal, grass, light citrus, and light caramel on the tongue, with a bread crust finish. There’s grass and or a light spice to the aftertaste with some bitter herb. It’s also lightly astringent.

12/28/14. 12oz bottle from the Milan Hy Vee. Hazed golden pour with a small khaki head. Green apples and ketchup in the aroma, a bit of caramel and maltiness. Same on the flavor, ketchup, bordering on acidity, green apples, malty. Blech.

12oz bottle. Poured a clear golden color with a white head. Aroma was bready and light grass. Flavor was pale malts, grainy, not much noble hop presence. Just fairly bland even for a dort.

Taster on tap at GTMW. Clear golden color. Thin off-white head. Loose bits of lace. Medium body. Smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Lightly slick. Good bready aroma, toasty, crackery. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter. White bread and a hint of corn. Nice refreshing helles, I liked this one. Easy-drinking lager.

Alightly hazy yellow with a small head. Not much retention. The aroma is fruity, with some bready malt character, and lager yeast. Flavor is bready pills malt with german hops, and a strange lingering anise flavor on the finish.
