COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In centuries past, to ensure a plentiful crop, the Celts would donate a variety of malts for a community ale to please the Shony, a local water spirit. Sadly, the custom dictated that they throw it all in the ocean. Our traditional 80 Shilling Scottish-style ale is a robust brew with notes of sweet caramel and mellow roast--best enjoyed on land, not in the sea!

This one poured from the bottle with a dark amber color and a moderately lasting beige head. The caramel and bread were evident in the nose and the malt taste. It also had a slightly soy note on the aftertaste, but not bad though. The hops matched in an herbal way. Id recommend it almost as a session brew, in that its smooth and has a rich taste for the style, but is still relatively low in ABV.

12oz bottle 3/15/14 (Binnys Downers Grove Mix A Six)-41 in English Pint-Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel, malt and toffee. Taste of the same with some sweetness and brown sugar. This light to medium bodied brew is a bit weak but not bad.

Infected bottle... Aroma of Belgian yeast, brown malts... Flavor is dry, earthy funky.. Like a Belgian brown, Saison... Finish is off... Drinkable for an infected beer, but not good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap. Pours a near clear dark brown with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a lot of earhty bread and grains with a bit of mustiness. Flavor has a bit of sweet dark grains with backing notes of bread and toffee.

Easy-drinking scottich ale, NOT SCOTCH ALE. It has a nice yeast characteristic.

Delayed review until new brewery info was entered. On tap and shaker served at Lunar Brewing Co., Villa Park, IL., showing an amber/brown color, a modest amount of off white head foam that reduced fairly quickly to a ring & film, and wavy cling to the lacing. The aroma was mild, toasty malt, and light hints of peat, leather, and caramel. The flavor was similar, adding low, earthy hop bitterness, medium to light body, average carbonation, and a pleasantly dry finish. A little light on character, but a decently drinkable, lower shilling Scottish.
