UPDATED: JAN 27, 2013 on tap at the brewery. pours an amber/brown color with a one finger off white bubbly head. aroma is toasted malt, light caramel, and a touch of peat and a touch of pine hops. flavor is the same as aroma but a bit stronger with some descent lacing. body is light to medium a nice 60 schilling.

Aroma is malts, fruit and a hard to describe odd funk. The flavor is fruit, malts, mild/medium grain sweetness and a tart/sour finish.

Tap at the taproom. Amber pour with a small foamy head. Sweet toffee, touch of dark sour fruit. Kinda resembles a Belgian in some respects.

I have no idea what the name of this beer is all about; the label gives no clue. (I see there’s a more lengthy commercial description on the site, but it sure doesn’t come from the bottle.) Oh, well. Drink on. The body of this beer (as it slowly forma under a monstrous tan head) is a nearly opaque chestnut color. The aroma, as it eventually seeps through, is caramel/toffee and little else. The flavor isn’t as sweet as the aroma suggests, still caramel/toffee with a light lactic sourness left on the tongue. I’m unsure of what they’re after here, but it is drinkable.

[Bottle] Chestnut brown colored pour with a soda-like head to it. Sweet malts and a bit of barnyard in the aroma. Sticky caramel, toffee and earthy malts in the taste. Sweet finish borders on cloying. Not a big fan.

This brewery has some deep seated quality control issue. I am not sure where things are going wrong but all their beers taste kind of like hefeweizens. They brew a lot of stuff I would generally like but it just never turns out right. This scottish ale pours a clear deep red. It would be pretty except for an excessively large head which makes the beer cumbersome to pour. It’s nose is of hay, iron and banana and it tastes pretty much the same. It is a bit sweet which brings out the banana a bit and I guess would be nice were I not so certain there is absolutely something wrong w/ this beer. A Scottish ale should be a pretty clean style and this is anything but. It is a shame to have this beer gone awry in the bottle. It seems like this would have a nice malt character otherwise.

12oz bottle. Pours with a telltale infected exuberance. Murky brown-burgundy body. Massive infected head simmers down quickly. A really poor example of "craft" beer. Not reminiscent of anything remotely Scottish Ale, this is just an infected murky, messy brown ale. Biting toffee nail polish aroma. Deep brown malts attempt to carry it through.

Bottle. Pours a rusty brown, thin head without any retention to speak of. Nose is malty, not much else. Watery body, malt forward, some apples and raisins hiding in there along with some brown bread. Unremarkable otherwise and probably the least Scottish styled ’Scottish Ale’ I’ve ever had.

This one poured from the bottle with a dark amber color and a moderately lasting beige head. The caramel and bread were evident in the nose and the malt taste. It also had a slightly soy note on the aftertaste, but not bad though. The hops matched in an herbal way. I’d recommend it almost as a session brew, in that it’s smooth and has a rich taste for the style, but is still relatively low in ABV.

12oz bottle 3/15/14 (Binny’s Downers Grove Mix A Six)-41° in English Pint-Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel, malt and toffee. Taste of the same with some sweetness and brown sugar. This light to medium bodied brew is a bit weak but not bad.

Infected bottle... Aroma of Belgian yeast, brown malts... Flavor is dry, earthy funky.. Like a Belgian brown, Saison... Finish is off... Drinkable for an infected beer, but not good
