COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In centuries past, to ensure a plentiful crop, the Celts would donate a variety of malts for a community ale to please the Shony, a local water spirit. Sadly, the custom dictated that they throw it all in the ocean. Our traditional 80 Shilling Scottish-style ale is a robust brew with notes of sweet caramel and mellow roast--best enjoyed on land, not in the sea!

Draft at source. Light smokey and stable flavors toffee and faint roast. Taste follows but overall seems to lack the malt complexity and mouthfeel of a Scottish export. A touch thin.

APPEARANCE- dark copper color. A bit hazy and light head with good lacing. NOSE- strong malt, littlest bitterness possible. Some kind of root beer scent to it. FLAVOR- kind of bland. A bit of maltiness, but no other strong flavors.

Carmel and scotchy notes. Coffee flavor and maybe some nuts. Good full flavor, just not a huge fan of the style. Dark brownish pour from draft at Beermiscuous. not bad.

Bottle: Cloudy, medium brown with a creamy, light beige head. Toffee, slightly toasted grain scent. Buttery, cola and toffee malt taste. A bit of a tang to it.... Ok, but a little bland and weak bodied.

Bottle. Butterscotch toffee malt and light straw aroma. Hazy dark brown with small head. Mildly sweet lactic toffee malt and mildly bitter dry hay flavor - not nearly as sweet as the aroma would seem to indicate. Body a bit light.

A fairly decent scotch ale. I've had better, and I've had worse. The malt bill could be better. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark amber brown color with a short lived off white head. Caramel, toffee, peat, toast, raisin and sweet malt aroma. Sweet malt, toffee, caramel and raisin flavors. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Sweet malt finish. Something about this beer just seems kind of off and artificial.

Pours a murky brown into Old Thumper pint glass. Nose of caramel, smoke, and raisins. I found the flavor to be a bit more complex. Get a strong flavor of salted caramel, along with a earthy flavor, raisins, vanilla and a slight sour note in the finish. It all works together nicely. A good example of a Scottish ale minus the lively carbonation. This is my fourth offering from this brewer; Helles lager, IPA, and Maibock all were good to very good. Not sure this brewery gets a fair shake in the ratings but to each their own.
