Sample from bottle courtesy of brew3crew. Pours an oily dark brown to black with a small fine khaki head. The aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, fresh boozy bourbon and a light touch of dark berries. The flavor has a wonderful blend of creamy milk and bitter dark chocolate, bourbon, some roasted malts, molasses, vanilla with a hint of dark fruits at the finish. There is no question that this is a big beer, but it is smooth with great mouth feel. I would like another shot at this someday. Consumed on 6/25/12 4.1

In short: A viscous boozy bourbonny black ale with undesired fruity sourness. Infected or just gross?
How: Bottle with thick golden wax, shared at Camping Brewdown 2012.
The look: Black body topped by a small beige head.
In long: Nose is has plenty of bourbon barrels with hot alcohol, asphalt and ripe dark fruits. Body feels thick, sticky and annoyingly viscous despite being well carbonated. Taste is sticky molasses, baked fruits, vanilla, sour dark fruits, a bit of cocoa, booze. I really didnít like this highly-rated beer and even poured myself a second sample just to make sure. Nope, still thought it was gross. Apparently the sour fruity taste is to be expected from this beer, sorry but to me this tasted like an infected beer, a boozy infected beer. Gross. If this bottle was representative of Churchillís finest hour Iíd be writing this rating in german.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2013 22 oz. waxed bottle served in a Deschute tulip. 2012 vintage. Huge thanks to Andrew (nasty31) for sharing. A: Pours a dark black with a thick head of mocha coloring forming on the pour. It recedes a to a nice ring that leave some splotchy lace. S: Smooth bourbon and roasted malts fill the nose right away. Sweet dark fruits (figs and chocolate covered raisins) are next with a sweet, but restrained oak and a little marshmallow. I can only hope the taste is as nice. T: Nice smooth bourbon with just a touch of residual heat. Heavily roasted malts, but nothing overbearing. Small amount of chocolate, but quite heavy on the fudge. A little toasted coconut with some mild oak and slightly burned campfire marshmallow. M: Incredibly smooth with a medium to low carbonation level. Velvety and cream. This beer drinks like itís, at the most, 8%. I could have finished this whole bomber with ease. O: As I mentioned before, the drinkability is off the charts. Very smooth, rich and creamy. This was a liquid meal of deliciousness. I donít think Iíll be able to have this again, but one could hope...right? Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-15-2012 Review #750. Thanks to stxSS07 for the share. A: Pours a dark black color with some dark ruby edges. A dark tan head forms on the pour and recedes slowly to a thin cap. Some splotches of lace are left down the glass. S: Very smooth barrel treatment on the one. Nice bourbon notes, toasted malts with a robust chocolate scent. Light caramel and minimal oak. T: The taste blows the smell away. Some toasted coconut and marshmallow with a smooth bourbon note. Roasted malts and dark chocolate with some light oak. Sweet caramel and light vanilla. M: Medium carbonation with a medium heavy bodied. Very smooth and sweet finish. O: Delicious. Not nearly as good as last yearís, but this is still a rock solid beer that I would hesitate to have again. Thanks again for the share Matt! Serving type: bottle 05-23-2013
