3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewpub in Chyse. A solid Jantar. Nice amber/brownish colour, malty and caramel notes in the aroma, sweet and smooth with a decent hoppy zest in taste. Great, not spectacular.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at the brewpub. A hazy amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt, brewmash, and caramel, as well as light notes of citrus. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, straw, and hay, as well as a touch of citrus. OK without being great.

(Rating #1575)

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the typical Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings.
How: Tap at brewpub (Zamecky Pivovar, Chye, Czech Republic)
The look: Almost clear copper body with a large off-white head
To me a typical Czech Polotmavé (Czech Amber Lagers) is: Hay and biscuit wrapped in caramel. Very light fruity notes with no specific fruits giving the impression of slightly fruity caramel. Moderately sweet. Sweetness is well balanced by dry grassy hops. Body is smooth. Medium carbonation.
This one: As above except maybe a little more honey and not enough hops. Slightly below average for the style.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
My Bottom Line:
Hay and honey team up with the herbal hops to whip up a classic, balanced and well-excuted recipe of the Polotmavé kind.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A fluffy head of foam tops the hazy amber.
-Simple yeast flavors prod the otherwise clean equilibirum.
-The body is healthy and the overall result is very drinkable.
-This, like other Chye beers that day, does not stand out amongst its peers, but its good enough for a pint.
On tap at Prokop Pivovarsky Pivnice, in Karlovy Vary.

on tap at the brewpub in chyse. pale amber, faintly hazy, lasting head. aroma of leather, white grape, rusty tea and some pine needles. bready, citric bitterness reminiscent of an amber ale. quite tasty, obviously much better fresh than bottled

1.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
UPDATED: NOV 16, 2007 Bottle. [thank you motelpogo]. Very pretty golden copper colour with a big foamy off white head. There was a lot of mist coming from the swing-top bottle when opening, giving a nice look in total. Aroma is mild, there is some weak honey, some distant caramel and a slight roasted edge to it. Flavour is extremely peppery bitter - perhaps an infection? Certainly not a nice experience to drink :o(

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Copper coloured with a firm white head, sweet honeyish nose with a tinge of toasted malt and hops, quite light bodied, mild sweet-bitter flavour, ending in a short, malty and bitter finish. Not bad, but not very impressive...........
