Unfiltered and just slightly cloudy. the hop zestiness rules the sweet fruity aroma. Solid ammounts of Saaz A bright white head adorns this fully alive and refreshing beer. Hops glide about the body but are smoothing and not acridly bitter. This whole trip has given me a new appreciation for this noble hop and how diverse it can be in so many of the brews in the Czech republic. Easy drinking and balanced.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 7, 2008 Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings. -------- />
How: Tap at brewpub (Zamecky Pivovar, Chyše, Czech Republic)
The look: Clear yellow-blonde body with a large white head
To me a typical Czech Světlý 11° and below is: Well malted body with lots of smooth cereals and a light fresh honey sweetness flavour. Some fruity notes (more fruity notes than in the 12°+) with mostly citrus fruits and a little lemon. The finish is somewhat herbal and citrusy with but unlike the 12°+ there is only a hint of the dry grassy bitterness usually associated with noble/Saaz hops. Bitterness is mild and does not really play a big role in the overall flavours spectrum. A light meringue sensation and an overall freshness impression.. Carbonation is typically very soft. These beers are low in intensity but very refreshing and drinkable in scarily large quantities.
This one: Pretty much as above, typical example of the style but overall a bit tame.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 24, 2008 My Bottom Line:
This refreshing Bohemian Pilsener proffers lightly honeyed base malts and rising herbal hops in a cheeky body made for both quenching and nourishment.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A lofty head of foam tops the hazy honeyed gold.
-Moravian malts, Saaz hops, cleanly executed, served unfiltered and unpasteurized. How can you go wrong?
-Nothing stands out here; all is balanced, smooth and very drinkable.
-That herbal hop bitterness pleasantly increases with every sip.
