Sample at Ale Alpharetta. Pours dark brown, with a thin, tan head. The aroma is milk chocolate, cherries, and lots of vinous notes. Sweet, and very sour and tart. Medium to heavy body, acidic, and sharp. This is a wonderful beer, with good use of the wine barrels to accentuate a nice beer.

Bottle pour. Pours a dark brown to black with a khaki colored head of foam. The aroma has vanilla, berries, wood, wine. The taste is mildly tart with mostly barrel notes. Overly assertive barrel qualities. Thicker mouthfeel with high carbonation. Complex and interesting, but not overly tasty.

Bottle from Homer321. Thanks! A: Opaque black with a cappuccino head. N: Sweet grape, vinous grape, cocoa, tobacco, leather, cola, tobacco. Nose with clashing flavors. T: Sweet, tart, and bitter hints. M: Medium body and oily. O: I donít understand the dark said on category. More is not better. It is at least drinkable.

Had thanks to my boys Prazak and the Reverend. Color is of a hazy brown. Aroma is of dark fruits . The Pinot Noir comes out nicely as well. A nice boozy finish on the palate as well.

Soooo...something is going on in these bottles. My wife and I are El Catador and had some extra bottles of this in the wine cellar. We both remember it being rich, chocolate, malty. But this has gone all Flemish Red on us after a year (maybe less) in 55 degree storage. I had to go back to the earliest to reviews to confirm as recent ones also note the odd conversion. Something wild definitely got in the bottles, as this more resembles La Folie now. Nose is sour funk, the berries still lurking in the back but now under barnyard notes. Taste is tart, sour, and slightly acetic. Actually, if this had been an aged sour I probably would love it, itís actual quite tasty as a sour. But itís not the beer it was when first released, itís different and gnarly. I think I actually have another bottle, which now I will probably let age another year to see how funky it gets. Drink last year.

Keg @ Brewvival 2014. Brownish pour with a tight off-white head. The nose is full of mellow toffee and a bit of chocolate. Slightly tart flavor. Some fruit by the food candied fruit sweetness. Accents of spiced brown bread and earth. More caramel. Medium body, soft carbonation.

What am i missing here? Pours a nice dark brown almost black pour with tan creamy head, it looks kinda nice. Aroma is dumpster gravy. Weird vomity berries dominate with some balsamic, coffee grounds, earth, and wet wood. Taste is heavy vinous balsamic, wet wood, and an acrid sourness and tons of booze. No thank you.

A garbage aroma. Lots of disjointed flavors, berries, roast, smoke, stale coffee, very random

Bottle via hopscotch (of course): Somewhat murky brown hue with a fadng but lasting head. Boy this is weird, sort of Flemish Sour meets Quadruple. Can get the Pinot Noir barrel big time along with lots of pithy dark fruits. Moderate flowery and earthiness too. Light but noticeable alcohol as well. I like this but it will be hard to finish the bottle, 12 oz would have been just fine.

CBC. Clear very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dark fruit and wood. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet finish with warming alcohol. 030514

Bottle shared by drowland, pours a murky dark brown with a red like tint to it, the aroma has quite a bit of dark fruit and spice with some of the fruit from the wine barrel coming through, flavor has a wine like front end with a dark fruit finish, interesting stuff.
