Bottle from Catador Club. Pours a deep red brown with a tan head. Nose is light chocolate, slight berry, jammy dodgers, vinous fruit, big oak, and huge pinot noir. Flavor starts off with Pinot Noir, then goes berry and fruit, then oak and dry pinot noir on the finish. I really liked this beer, but it was more vinous than I was expecting; like pinot noir in beer form, but I don’t like Pinot Noir.

Dark, dark brown to black colour, white head. Aroma of caramel, soy sauce, fish sauce and malts. Sweet malty flavour, caramel, light herbal. Finish caramel and green tomato.

750mL bottle from Catador Club, shared with cbfobes and some friends, June 2014. Dark brown head with a nice tan head and good lacing. Vinous aroma, wine and barrel popping through, fruity, mild spice, doughy, lots of berry. Nice flavor, dry red wine, a touch of oak, pretty fruity, mild spice, lots of berries, mild floral aspect - some would probably call this a bit sweet on the finish. Nice!

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours murky and dark brown with a small, creamy, khaki head. Fantastic retention. The toasty, vinous aroma features caramel, toffee and loads of red wine. Full-bodied, über silky and viscous with lazy carbonation. The flavor is a mélange of caramel, toffee and lightly-tart, dry red wine. Rich, buttery toffee finish. I’ve got to go against the grain here and say Another world-class beer from the fine folks at Cigar City!

I didn’t love this one as much as I wanted to. I got the sour notes from awdi brown pour with effervescent head. Nose was grapes and tartness, some vinous. It wasn’t bad but wasn’t a favorite.

Large shared bottle. Flavor: wine barrel aging hints at brandy. Sweet with a tart and fruity aftertaste . Feel: Near syrupy full body O: Complex and highly distinctive. This spiced, wine-barrel aged, lightly sour, imperial stout is likely to have both advocates and critics.

750ml bottle. Dark brown pour, with an off white head. Berries, malty, grape juice, oak barrel, vinous, sweetness, and slightly tart. Meh, forgettable.

750 ml bottle shared with the group in January 2014. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have berries, vinous character, wood, floral notes, some sweetness, light tart, doesn’t drink like 10%.

Bottle thanks to 50belair! Bottle #5 at the tasting. Pours dark chestnut, small tan head, some lacing. Aroma has a bit of funkiness, roasty and vinous, tea notes as well. Flavor is lightly sweet, fruity, tea and floral notes, lots of vinous stuff and noticeable spices. Medium body. Interesting.

Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Heavy malty aroma. Starts heavy malty with notes of liquorice and coffee, quite dry. Finish warming, still heavy malty, but well balanced. Not bad!
