Bottle. Pours clear black with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is roast and chocolate malt, earthy and woody hops with light smoke. Flavor is dark malt dominant with smoke and peat, earthy and woody hops with a dry finish. Medium to light body and medium carbonation.

Bomber shared at the 9th Richmond Rare & Unusual Epic Tasting, Richmond, VA, 11/30/14. Pours dark brown with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, wood, smoke, spice, butter. The taste is spice, smoke, peppers, roasted malt. Medium bodied, lingering spice. I guess I liked this better than anyone else there. Also, I personally blame jackl for blaming gunhaver.

Tap at CCB. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Ashy, lightly hoppy, some woody notes, toothpick. Not bad for the style.

Bottle @ home, thanks to Homer321 for sending. Pours a deep brown appearance with a fluffy dark brown head. Aroma is saw dust, burnt wood, burnt sugar, caramel, olives, and tomatoes. After the olives, it’s 100% blue cheese. Medium high sweetness. Tons of anise and tannins. Burnt chocolate. Campfire smoke. Not good @ all.

Bottle... Pours clear and black with a small, fizzy, lightly tanned head. The aroma is awesome – charcoal, virgin ash and leather, accompanied by a light note of campfire smoke. Medium-bodied with modest carbonation. Acrid, roasty, woody flavor with a light kiss of acidity. Finishes mildly tangy and charred. Bottle courtesy of otakuden!

Taster at RBWG 2014 grand tasting - thanks to the person who shared this! Very dark brown, near black color. Thin khaki head. Couple dots of lace. Nice smoke in the nose, some roast malts. That smell is amplified in the flavor. Huge big ashy smoke, and heavy roast. Maybe one of the ashiest beers I’ve ever had. Smells like an ashtray, but it’s not terrible. I’m interested in this. Some dark fruit, raisin, licorice notes. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Dry finish. Bigger bitterness. Some light alcohol warmth. drinks like maybe 9-10%. Maybe a light bite in the finish. Damn good ashy smokey schwarzbier. This appeals to me.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of roasted malts and dark grains with a bit of a earthy smoke note underlying. Flavor is similar with dark grains and backing notes of roast, earthiness and light smoke.

Bottle - Peat, smoke and char. Jet black with a thin head. Stinky cheese, the really ripe ashy skunky kind. Smokey, peaty, stinky and crazy. Love it.
