Bottle share at Proof courtesy of kantrauch. Opaque black in appearance. Some tan head that comes back with each swirl. Aroma is really woody, really smokey. I am now very certain what black ash smells and tastes like. This is sooooo unenjoyable. Entirely too much wood and smoke. Taste like burnt malt. Good body and mouthfeel, but I canít get into this beer.

This one poured a very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma was of smoke, wood, and light roast. Falvor was similar, fairly dry, light smokey, somehwat interesting but still a little dull.

Bottle - thanks Homer! Pours dark black with a large creamy brown head that dissipates slowly with good lacing. Aroma is indeed ashy, roasted malts, coffee, burned paper. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter, quite ashy, including the acidity that goes with it. Lots of dark burned roasted malts. Finish is rather harshly bitter and acidic. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Points for originality for sure!

On draft at Hunahpu Day. Pours a stout brown with a tan head. Nose is a bit of roast and bakerís chocolate with some big smoke, ash, and coal. Flavor is similar with smoke, ash, coal, and roast along with some yeast and bitterness. Light to medium in body and not my favorite, although I can see cooking with it and pairing it with something earthy maybe.

Tap at CCB. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Ashy, lightly hoppy, some woody notes, toothpick. Not bad for the style.

Bottle at RBWG GT. Poured a pitch black body with lighter dark brown edges under a foamy beige head. Aroma of wood and varnish. Medium bodied with lighter carbonation and an average duration on the aftertaste. Flavor of varnish covered wood, dark toast. Meh did not like this one.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of roasted malts and dark grains with a bit of a earthy smoke note underlying. Flavor is similar with dark grains and backing notes of roast, earthiness and light smoke.

Pours black with a brown head and ashy, burnt, liquorice aroma. Taste is sweet, nice wood notes along with strong burnt ash, fruit, oak, and light smoke with a short finish. Nice brew, great for the style
