bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA Sep 22, 2009 Growler at dchmela’s house. Dark brown body. Very chocolaty and coffee smell. incredibly sweet. Taste is the same, but with peppery and vanilla tones as well. Nice and roasty. juiceisloose (661), Windermere, Florida, USA Sep 12, 2009 Growler courtesy dchmela. Thanks so much Dave for sharing this. Pours a dark mahogany brown color topped by a foamy, tan colored head that leaves spots of lacing behind. The aroma is really jumps out at you with huge notes of cuban espresso, dark and bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, and some pepper spices on the back. The flavors are equally impressive with the dark and bitter chocolate up front coupled with the roastiness from the cuban espresso, and some vanilla beans as well. The chili peppers add some heat and spicyness on the backend. Full bodied, smooth and creamy on the mouthfeel with balanced carbonation and a nice bite on the finish from the chili peppers. Really complex flavor profile and just an awesome beer all around. dchmela (1426), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 8, 2009 Shared growler with Hopscotch and Juiceisloose. Dark brownish red pour with a thick creamy tan head. Huge explosion of espresso, cocoa powder and vanilla aroma. Liked the flavor even more, chocolate malt, vanilla, chili peppers and roasted grain all blend nicely and keep you coming back to search for more flavors. Complex and massively delicious. daknole (2879), Plantation, Florida, USA Sep 7, 2009 Sent my way by tpd975. What another amazing beer by cigar c ity. Brown pour. Coffee and espresso notes jump out of the glass and greet you with a punch. Vanilla, spices, woody notes, fruit and some chocolate folow. Flavor is just delicious. Tons of coffee, caramel, chocolate, nuts, vanilla and wood. Hell yeah this is delicious. WOW. douglas88 (1574), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Sep 3, 2009 500 ml handbottle thanks to Ibrew2or3. Pours out a velvety smooth dark color with a massive beige head and lots of lacing. The aroma is mostly espresso, some vanilla and earthy notes as well. The flavor is unique and good; lots of coffee, the rich milky kind, but equally a ton of chocolates and vanilla and the spicy finish is very noticeable- it adds a zing to the finish. I long lingering finish of coffee and spiciness. Very nice and very unique. Yeah, I want some Hunapus now! Ibrew2or3 (2724), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Sep 1, 2009 Growlered at the brewery and pouring out deep brown with mahogany edges and tan head. The aroma is roasty, coffee, chicory, some sweet nuttiness and faint chili peppers. The taste begins both sweet with nuttiness and roasty with dark roasted coffee and dark roasted malts. Soon after notes of chicory and mild levels of chocolate and chili peppers emerge and bring a soothing complex balance to the taste. The dash of chocolate and faint chili pepper heat linger with dark roasted coffee on a smooth velvety carpet ride into the finish and after taste. FlssmrBrewAlum (1107), Lisle, Illinois, USA Sep 1, 2009 Swingtop bottle courtesy of an Ibrew2or3 extra. Epic extra, Dave! A beer I’ve been itching to try. Pours a very dark hazy opaque rusty brown, more bright red around the edges, prominent light caramel head that laces pretty well. Aromas are complex and heavy, throwing a light smokiness with an espresso and vanilla feel largely, coffee and cocoa, with faint cinnamon and good caramel malts in the body. Almost smells like Baskin Robbins vanilla tastes, especially with that coffee accent coming in from the background as though we are standing in the Dual Baskin/Dunkin Donuts. Initial is similar, hitting with a good roasty and toasty body, complimented by sweet vanilla and espresso, roasty coffee beans, dark chocolate, caramel malt sweetness falls underneath, with light spice, and that oh so heavely pepper. So this is what the CCB crowd has been raving about!? I was skeptical of the pepper aging (And some CCB beers in general) that we’ve heard about in the Hunapus, but this truly accents the beer very well, providing a light spicy pepper heat behind the more bold sweet and roasty bitter mix. The peppers put this beer over the edge, and I certainly can’t wait to try the Hunapus if this is what we are in for. The beer’s strength is in it’s blend of flavors and balance that comes from them, the roasty coffee beans and slight smoke meshing well with the sweetness of the vanilla and caramel, faint chocolate bitterness and sweetness and the Espresso dual cause. The peppers.. yum. Finish leaves a well coated mouth of a good flavor spectrum, sweet and roasty bitter, with faint pepper that lingers. I don’t know how they decided on the amount of pepper to use, but they certainly have pegged it. Cheers to an amazing beer! My favorite Brown Ale to date. hopscotch (5466), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 30, 2009 Growler… This beer rocks!… Pours dark brown with a small, creamy, off-white head. The body is a murky ruby-red when held up to very bright light. The aroma is a decadent mélange of espresso beans, cocoa nibs, cinnamon, toasted nuts and a dash of vanilla. Full-bodied with a very smooth mouthfeel despite stinging carbonation. The flavor is a sweet and acrid blend of burnt, bitter, tangy espresso beans, dark chocolate and toasted nuts. Bittersweet, acrid, espresso finish. Big-time kudos to dchmela for sharing his growler of this world class beer!
