3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma has a nice rich caramel malt aroma with some toffee and treacle. Some faint smokiness is also present in the aroma. Dried fruit is light but present with raisin being lost prevalent.
Pours light brown with some burnt amber and a small but persistent light tan head. Very faint lacing with a medium sized head.
Flavor is fairly malty with lots of caramel and some dark fruit. The bitterness is a bit strong and slightly harsh and the alcohol spice is also over powering.
Mouthfeel is medium full to full bodies with medium carbonation. Medium astringency and moderate alcohol heat.
Overall the beer is decent but it's a but hot with a rather one dimensional malt character. The hop bitterness is a bit unpleasant as well.

(750ml bottle) cloudy deep brown pour, soapy medium tan head. Nose of raisins, sweet malt, dark fruit, rich caramel, light oxidation, cream, Light hops, so well balanced and rich. Taste of rich caramel, cream, raisins, light oxidation that I like, Slightly bitter hops, creamy body, easy to drink, no real hint of ABV.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 400th Barleywine rating celebrated here by tasting yet another Cigar City beauty.
Opened at the annual Black Friday Tasting. Ok, what is this mess? 750mL pours up with a clear amber body with sort of light brown edges and supporting a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a pleasing and inviting mix of prunes, earthy dates, sweet malt infused molasses, brown sugar and then a sense of booze at the end of the draw. Smells of a wonderful English style barleywine. The taste is smooth and rich and drool inducing (not sure anyone noticed my drool just now). I get brown sugar covered earthy dates, prunes, molasses and smooth sweet booze soaked brown sugar. Rich pure yumminess. Grade A+ English style barleywine. Damn fine beer. This needs to be made again and a keg (nah) a palate of kegs shipped to my house.
So most ratings below 4.0 so far. Shows you how many people drink far too little barleywine to know an amazing one when they taste it.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle:   Deep, dark, and dirty caramel in color.   Large tannish head, frothy, dies quickly leaving little lacing.   Big whole wheat bready nose, caramel, dark pitted fruit, and molasses on the nose.   This one certainly is a malt bomb.   On the tongue its almost overwhelming.   Thick whole wheat breadiness, biscuity, dark/burnt caramel, with notes of dark pitted fruit.   Its also very warming and a bit boozy @ 13%.   This is a bruiser!   Despite its magnitude of flavors, its not too heavy or too sugary, so body and mouthfeel are moderate.   It does however, feel a little sticky because of the sweetness.   Finishes with lots of heavy whole wheat breadiness and almost an astringent dark pitted fruit.   No mistaking this is an English style Barley Wine, but it seems that @ 13% its trying to make its mark in the world.   Dial it down, or sit on it for a while as it needs a little time to settle down.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at the BA Buffalo bottle share. Pours mahogany amber with off white head. The caramel stands out in this creature. Slight toffee finished with flowery hops. Whispy bitterness keeps things on an even keel. Another treat.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml bottle served in a Portsmouth tulip. Big thanks to Eric (Holland) for the bottle!
A: Pours a dark plum color with some light brown hues mixed in with a light khaki head forming on the pour. It leaves some splotchy and random lace around the glass.
S: Dark fruits, mostly raisins and figs with a sweet fruit juice flavor and some alc. Malty caramal and burnt sugar also.
T: Slight oxidation with some plum flesh, dates and figs. Sweet raisins and some boozy and fruity alcohol. some burnt sugar and mild molasses as well.
M: Medium bodied with some medium to low carbonation and some dark fruits flavors left on the palate.
O: This was a nice solid beer, but it left me wanting some more. I needed a little more malt and a little less dark fruit flavor to balance it out.
