COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A collaborative beer produced by Terrapin Beer Co. and Cigar City Brewing, two innovative breweries in the deep South. We decided to make a beer that will bring to mind a Southern staple, pecan pie. Pecans were first introduced to colonists by the Algonquin Indians. They referred to the nut as pakan or paccan, which means "a nut so hard that is ha to be cracked with a stone." The two breweries agreed that a malty, dark lager would be a great canvas for such a Southern tradition, graciously slathering heaps of Munich malt and other specialty grains to emulate a portrait of Southern hospitality, the likes of which could conquer any sweet tooth.

And just a reminder, it’s pronounced puh-CON, not PEE-can!

750ml bottle pours a hazy brown with some thin, off white head. Nose is like sweet potato pie, root veg, starchy, vanilla, caramel, mild spice. Flavor has a lot of faux vanilla, sweet potato flesh, caramel, clove, brown sugar, some malt. Sweet, vanilla finish.

750ml bottle. Amber pour. Smell is puffed wheat cereal. Flavor is sickly sweet candy corn. Failure.

Bottle to 7venth sun glass. Deep chocolate brown with nice solid tan looking crust of head. Smells like pecans pie topped with vanilla icecream. Nutty maple syrup notes. Sweet nutty full bodied beer. Heavy dessert beer for sure. Makes me want icecream to go with it.

750 ml bottle poured into a Belgian snifter. Pours dark ruby/brown with a finger of light tan head. No lacing. Aromas of caramel, pecans, molasses, vanilla, light booze. Tasting notes of sweet malt, pecans, caramel, molasses, some alcohol on the backend. Medium-light body with a dry and warm finish. Medium carbonation, light syrupy mouthfeel. Never had a flavored doppelbock before so it was a bit strange at first but kind of grew on me as I sipped on it.

Shared bottle with Timfoolery. If you like Pecan pie this is the beer for you. I love pecan pie, thus the high rating. Lots of SMG.

Opaque dark deep brown with a thin light khaki foamy head. The nose is subtle but very nice with vanilla nuttiness and a bit of vanilla bean ice cream with a dose of milk chocolate. The flavor is sublime with a deep complexity with nutty pecans, earthy caramel, loads of vanilla bean ice cream, and some chocolate nougat. Wodnerful and fun.

Bottle shared at a recent Tampa tasting. Pours a deep brown color with an off-tan head. Nose is big notes of pecan, molasses, some caramel and brown sugar also combine in this malty dark lager. Flavor is similar with big sweet malt, some dark fruit, some brown sugar, molasses, big pecan pie sweetness as well. Sweetness and dark fruity character linger into the finish. Medium in body and an interesting concept.

750 ml bottle shard by Phatdog1, thanks?? Aroma has a very off tomato soup nuance, very, very strange. Thank the good lord it does not taste like tomato soup! Really undesirable aroma.

The flavor does have lots of malt and sugar. There is pecan notes notes with roasted malt. I’m sorry this is odd. Where the hell is the vanilla?? Sickly sugary sweet with no balance. I had really high hops for this brew. Both breweries are great in their own right. Perhaps something happened in storage or packing and shipping?? I really thought this would be great.... No! What happened here?

750 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a medium beige head. A sweet nutty and malty nose. Malty, super sweet, dry, earthy, big berries. Light chocolate. A bit of heat. Very sweet, molasses. Unusual.

Poured a dark amber color with aromas of molasses, pecans, brown sugar, pie crust and some light malt. Flavors were gooey pecan filling with some pecans. Dopplebocks are not my style but this tasted like a nice pecan pie. A really sweet treat that should be drank as or with dessert.
