COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A collaborative beer produced by Terrapin Beer Co. and Cigar City Brewing, two innovative breweries in the deep South. We decided to make a beer that will bring to mind a Southern staple, pecan pie. Pecans were first introduced to colonists by the Algonquin Indians. They referred to the nut as pakan or paccan, which means "a nut so hard that is ha to be cracked with a stone." The two breweries agreed that a malty, dark lager would be a great canvas for such a Southern tradition, graciously slathering heaps of Munich malt and other specialty grains to emulate a portrait of Southern hospitality, the likes of which could conquer any sweet tooth.

And just a reminder, it’s pronounced puh-CON, not PEE-can!

Had on draft at the brewery. Was a bit nervous about this one, as I've had some bad experiences with pecan beers before. Right away, the taste is quite sweet. While it was marketed as tasting like pecan pie, it is much more reminiscent of the flavor of CCB's oatmeal cream pie lager, which is a good thing in my book. Beyond the unique creamy sweet flavor lays a very subtle pecan flavor. It's hard to pick out but it's there. Still, like every other pecan beer out there, it just can't bring the nut to the forefront. Luckily, the beer has a lot more going for it. The 10% is nowhere to be found, making this a dangerously drinkable beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 From the bottle. Reddish brown pour with thin off white head. Nutty, pie crust aroma with hints of chocolate. Taste is pure dessert beer, chocolate, nut, pie crust and possiibly a hint of whip cream. Delightful.

750mL thanks to tastybeer! Clear, deep cola red. Great yellow foam. Nose gives off volatile plastic, salted pecans, buttery crust, rich, flashes of coconut rum. Taste is spot on rich Pecan pie, salty, super rich, coconut, baked buttery crust. Impressive.

Bottled 12/03/13. Smell of a red apple, freshly cut and topped with warm caramel and roasted nuts. Maple syrup sweetness, rich, fresh vanilla. Heavy malts with no booze. Clean, vanilla aroma similar to a root beer. Whoa, big burning warmth. Slight powdery dry after taste. Taste of treats at a cider mill, perfect to pair with some spiced doughnuts. Flavors are rich and clean.
