COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A collaborative beer produced by Terrapin Beer Co. and Cigar City Brewing, two innovative breweries in the deep South. We decided to make a beer that will bring to mind a Southern staple, pecan pie. Pecans were first introduced to colonists by the Algonquin Indians. They referred to the nut as pakan or paccan, which means "a nut so hard that is ha to be cracked with a stone." The two breweries agreed that a malty, dark lager would be a great canvas for such a Southern tradition, graciously slathering heaps of Munich malt and other specialty grains to emulate a portrait of Southern hospitality, the likes of which could conquer any sweet tooth.

And just a reminder, it’s pronounced puh-CON, not PEE-can!

Brown pour with a light tan head. Aroma is straight up pecan pie: pecans, vanilla, even slight pie crust notes. Flavor is very similar. It is amazing that they were able to match the flavor up so well with this one. Great beer, absolutely spot on with the flavor and awesome concept!

Opaque dark deep brown with a thin light khaki foamy head. The nose is subtle but very nice with vanilla nuttiness and a bit of vanilla bean ice cream with a dose of milk chocolate. The flavor is sublime with a deep complexity with nutty pecans, earthy caramel, loads of vanilla bean ice cream, and some chocolate nougat. Wodnerful and fun.

Tasty, tasty, tasty. Pecan and vanilla come out great and there is a nice alcohol taste that hits the pallet. Must try.

750mL bottle pours with a dark amber body that has glowing thin gold edges and supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up molasses, caramel malts, sweet and hoppy wort notes, some mild fruity esters and then malt sweetened ginger snap cookies. Cool. The taste is smooth sweet goodness with molasses, caramel malts and tasty sweet sticky wort flavored spiced cookies. This all rides on a smooth slick rich sweetness that binds everything together. I want to give this about a 3.9 but being the “homer” I am it needs to bump up higher.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/3/2013. Pours fairly clear dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Minimal lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, molasses, toast, brown bread, light chocolate, pecan nuttiness, vanilla, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Damn nice balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and pecan/vanilla notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, chocolate, vanilla, pecan nuttiness, light plum, herbal, and toast/yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, chocolate, vanilla, pecan nuttiness, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and vanilla/pecan flavors; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a moderately slick and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome flavored doppelbock style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and pecan/vanilla flavor additions; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Shared bottle with Timfoolery. If you like Pecan pie this is the beer for you. I love pecan pie, thus the high rating. Lots of SMG.

Had on draft at the brewery. Was a bit nervous about this one, as I've had some bad experiences with pecan beers before. Right away, the taste is quite sweet. While it was marketed as tasting like pecan pie, it is much more reminiscent of the flavor of CCB's oatmeal cream pie lager, which is a good thing in my book. Beyond the unique creamy sweet flavor lays a very subtle pecan flavor. It's hard to pick out but it's there. Still, like every other pecan beer out there, it just can't bring the nut to the forefront. Luckily, the beer has a lot more going for it. The 10% is nowhere to be found, making this a dangerously drinkable beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours brown with a tan head and aroma of pecans, vanilla, and malt. Taste is sweet and delicious, a lot vanilla comes through nicely with the pecans, caramel, malt, and toffee with a sweet, vanilla finish. Tasty and enjoyable doppelbock, great for the style with nice rich vanilla
