On tap at CCB! Black pour, brown head. Aroma is beautiful. The Mt Ranier hops shine well as does a lot of chocolate, brown sugar, cedar, bourbon and some pepper notes. Beerlando is right in his review, the peppery notes are much less noticeable in this brew and the bourbon adds a bit of mellowness to the beer. Smooth and a great mouthfeel leads to flavors of chocolate, charred wood, bourbon, cedar and light bitterness. Damn fine.
4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 GG (1980) - NorCal, California, USA - NOV 27, 2009
First, thanks to Dakine for shipping this one out to me. Suprised my brother with this on his 44th birthday and shared it with several beer geeks, although I’m the only one who rates here. With that being said, this was a mind-blowing, tongue-exploding, sensory-overload impy stout if there ever is one. This one belongs up there in the stratosphere with other world-class imperial stouts (KtG, Darkness, etc).
Batch #2 2009, bottle #259. After cutting away the wax, popping the top the beer just glugged out of the bottle. An obvious thick consistency, black as black can be, and billowing from the body of this beast was a thick, creamy brown head that seemed like it was on Viagra it lasted so long. Tons and tons of chocolate and roasted goodness permeates my surroundings. Huge notes of molasses, vanilla, smoke and bourbon punch it’s way thru the chocolate and coffee and join the party in my nose. First sip....pure, unadulterated, bliss. Like eating a mouthful of dark chocolate coated coffee beans and then chasing it with a sip of bourbon. Everything just coats the inside of my mouth like a blanket of loving goodness. Light smokey notes, a bit of wood, finishes wonderfully and leaves my mouth longing for the next sip. Just insane how good this is.
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 markwise (2914) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - AUG 6, 2009
Rating #1000!!! Draft at CCB BB Big Sound Release. Excellent beer. This beer is the poster child for barrel aging. Emerges from the tap obsidian black with a dark tan head, depending on the bartender’s pour. It looks like a beer with a Vendetta. Nose is dark chocolate, burnt malt, lots of earth, roast, and where the bitterness resided in regular IRIS now resides subtle and assertive, but not overpowering bourbon, vanilla, and sweetness. This beer still has a thick mouthfeel, with roast and bourbon arguing over who gets the first shot. These are closely followed by dark chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, barrel, and roast. Finish lingers with bourbony/ vanilla-y goodness. Absoutely awesome BB Beer, but then again, look at my avatar...

There is a plethora of savory aroma from vague hints of sweet malts to brandy. It has a perfect dark color and small head that never stopped. The flavors were delicate as this potent brew ran over your mouth and tongue like pure silk. Phenomenal classy brew.

750ml, black waxed bottle, #283/449 courtesy of JMFG. thanks, jay! pours a gorgeous, sludgy, jet black with a thick, creamy reddish-brown head leaving sticky, tight lacing. aroma is fantastic with huge, smokey, roasted malts, dark chocolate, and spicy cedar backed by subtle, woody, bourbon, toasted caramel, and light vanilla with just a hint of citrus hops, soy, and dark fruits. flavor is stunning as well with the oaked, mellow notes of bourbon blending seamlessly with the, dry, chalky, smoked cedar, bitter dark chocolate, and roasted malts and backed by subtle, grassy hops, tobacco, sweet mocha coffee, coconut, and burnt caramel with a dry, creamy, bittersweet and slightly spicy finish. palate is thick and full bodied with perfect carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. overall, another kick-ass beer from CCB. dare i say it, i like this more than the base version. wow.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 kiefdog (1826) - Tampa, Florida, USA - AUG 1, 2009
Draft at CCB BA Scotch Ale Release party. Pours a pitch black muddy black color with a nice tannish-yellow velvety and creamy head that settles slowly. Aroma is lightly roasted and malty with notes of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, toffee, caramel and some earthy notes. Flavor is roasted and bourbony with notes of coffee, toffee, cocoa, tobacco, molasses, ripe dark fruit, some hints of anise. Generally full body with a pleasing roasted, hoppy finish. I didnt think that IRIS could be any better, but this barrel aged version is outstanding.

Thanks Kevin for sharing this!
A- Dark pitch black body that does not allow for light to pass through. Pours with a 1-2 finger light brown head that has great retention at 1/2 finger.
S- Nose is complex and balanced. Components of bourbon, oak, molasses, and dark chocolate all come through for the nose. The RIS complexity that is noticeable in regular 110K isn’t as detectable here as the bourbon and woody notes kind of take over for it.
T- The bourbon and oak components to this brew are really noticeable upfront but anise, licorice, vanilla, and dark chocolate malt are all detectable in the background. These flavors remain consistent for the finish but a touch of roasted malt and a slight hint of alcohol is added for the finish. A subtle impression of all that was mentioned lingers.
P- As with regular 110K-mouthfeel is thick, rich, smooth, and creamy with a relatively low carbonation.
O- Wow. This is a wonderful imperial stout. Its incredible and pretty drinkable. This is a BA stout where the BA characteristics compliment the beer nicely with good balance. Great experience to try both 110Ks in one evening and I am looking forward to trying more cigar city brews.
