(750ml bottle. Sparky brought this to the Black Friday tasting). Pours black with an espresso head. Aroma is roast and coffee. Taste is sweet malts and roasty bitterness. Full bodied with a sticky texture. Dry finish. I liked it, but didn’t love it. A little roasty for my tastes.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Drake (5232) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - OCT 27, 2011
750 mL bottle courtesy of Joe Redner. Thanks! Pours a pitch black color with a very dark fizzy brown head. Decent head retention. Big aroma with notes of roasted malts, soy, leather, wood, peppery notes, olives, vanilla, tobacco, toasted malts and faint cherry-like fruit notes. The taste is huge roasted malts, soy, wood, smoke, bitter hops, jerky. Full bodied. Just a huge beer. A little too much for me but still pretty good.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kramer (3457) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 25, 2011
Bottle. Pours a pitch black body with zero light passing thru, beautiful one finger dense and creamy dark brown head that had excellent retention. Sitting in the glass, I can’t imagine a better looking Imperial Stout. The nose is excellent, super roasty and chocolaty with some minimal wood, restrained alcohol, and some light char. There’s even a bit of all those hops still sticking around. It almost beats you over the head with intensity. The flavor is good, but not as great as the nose would lead on. A little less chocolaty and more intense in the burnt roastiness. The alcohol is still nicely restrained though, and that helps. A little more of the wood comes out on the finish along with a little taste of all those hops that have mostly faded by this time. The finish lingers on forever thanks to the enormously thick and chewy body. It just coats the entire inside of the mouth. Minimal restrained carbonation gives it just a little bit of life without being distracting. All in all a pretty good experience.

Bottle. Compliments of Steve from Kickbacks in Jacksonville. Poured into a tulip glass a dark, ominous black color with a nice mocha tan head that collars around the glass. Dark chocolate, roast, slight soy, tobacco in the nose. Lots going on. Med mouthfeel. Leather, spiced oakiness (or is that the cedar?), dark chocolate, coco, ends with a slight bitterness. Some dark fruit. Woody and pepper as well. Overall, I was a fan.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 burg326 (1100) - Florida, USA - AUG 23, 2011
Botttle, poured a dark black that left some nnice black lacing as I drank it. Aromas of coffee, burnt malt, licorice, chocolate, and hops. You get a mild bitterness, and the licorice stays on the palate. Really well balanced with all the flavors.

Bottle from jcwattsrugger...thanks John! - Pours black as hell with a thin brown head. Wow...this is thick. Roasty as hell, with tons of ash, with a bit of licorice and sweeter toffee notes in the background. A little metal. Taste is a little sweeter, with an odd lactic note in the middle. Molasses and burnt sugar, with lots of roast. Long sweet finish. Smooth as hell and really thick. Good stuff, and even though I’m burned out on stouts, this was nice stuff.

750 ml bottle. Pours a thick pitch black oily color with a thick and creamy brown head. Aroma of black licorice, roasted malts, cinnamon, baking chocolate, burnt sugar notes and rotting tree bark. Taste of black licorice, roasted malts, cinnamon, baking chocolate and burnt sugary notes.

# 1500 Huge thanks to Dmac for giving me this bottle. Pours out black with an attractive two-finger reddish-tan head. Aroma is of dark chocolate, deep roast, raisin, alcohol, spice and plum. Taste is very complex, with a nice thick mouthfeel and still a nice amount of carbonation. Taste is of deep roast, dark chocolate, light coffee, fig, raisin, alcohol, light lingering bitterness with a little bit of spice and black twizzler in there also. This was a very solid brew, too bad they are only making it one time.

A: The beer pours an almost black color with a fairly sizable tan colored head.
S: An incredibly intense roasted malt aroma to the nose which sort of drowns out everything else. Some dark chocolate and a fair amount of coffee is present. A little bit of an espresso character and some burnt sugar.
T: More of the same on the palate. Dark roasted malts and coffee dominate the flavor. Some bitter, dark chocolate and a hint of alcohol. Mild licorice and toffee with some molasses sweetness.
M: Medium to full in body with a medium level of carbonation.
O: I preferred this to the barrel aged version for the more melded flavor and superior mouthfeel.
