4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 craftycarl21 (1701) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - MAR 25, 2011
Thanks to jblauvs for this one. Motor oil black pour with an incredibly dark brown head. Beautiful looking stuff. Nose holds biiiig notes of dark chocolate, definite cedar woodiness, roast and toast, some lactic cream, anise, and almost a touch of cayenne pepper, like Hunahpu. Absolutely delightful. Flavor has loads of baker’s chocolate and bitterness from the cedar, coffee, wood and spice. Mouthfeel is really nice, hiding the 11% very well, and not exceptionally thick. Really awesome, I’m glad this didn’t go over the hill. Super pleased.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 oteyj (1885) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 25, 2011
Epic blackness with a frothy tan head. The aroma is cocoa nib, cedar, roasted malts, brownie, milk chocolate, booze, licorice, and Cayenne spice. The flavor holds huge burnt malts, cocoa nib, roasty bakers chocolate, espresso, and woody cedar spice. The palate is epically thick and rich with an oily texture and a dry chalky finish.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Glouglouburp (4782) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 22, 2011
In short: An uber-sweet, boozy and strangely woody impy stout. Over-the-top with no class
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed when a little over one year of age. One of the few bottles I received from solan and … somebody else. Thanks a lot guys!
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head with medium retention
In long: From the nose you can tell this will be one hell of a heavy beer. Nose has toasted wood, wort, fresh tobacco leafs, alcohol, some figs. Taste is overly sweet, creamy commercial milk chocolate bar, too much alcohol, too much toasted wood with a spicy edge, figs, roast, brownies and a strong surprising fruity hop bitterness. Very long finish. I could probably list more flavour elements but it doesn’t matter. What’s important is that the beer throws a lot of stuff at your. Body is thick and very viscous but has plenty of small bubbles so it doesn’t feel like a syrup. You’d figure that with such a thick body the alcohol would be well hidden but it is not, not at all. I understand that big beers are not session beers but there are plenty of comparable beers in style and gravity (Dark Lord, etc.) that I find a pure delight to drink by the bottle. But this 110K #2 I just couldn’t finish. I didn’t find what’s so great about this one. This #2 is not the shit.
